Mountain Home is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 4,814 at the 2000 census. The first ammunition in Mountain Home was shot by prospectors on July 10, 1876 during the Gold Rush. At that time there were no shops or arsenals in the area so ammunition had to be brought in from outside. Ammunition became more important during World War I as it helped protect troops and civilians from other explosives-based attacks. In 1924, Mountain Home started manufacturing its own rifle rounds and pistols using a new technology called "extractor." This allowed gunsmiths to produce custom rounds for their customers without having to worry about the quality of ammo supplied by other manufacturers. During World War II, mountain home produced over 2 million rounds of artillery ammunition. The town also manufactured tanks and infantry fighting vehicles such as motorcycles and trucks used by American forces overseas. In 1951, Town Hall was dedicated to honor all who have served in the Army or Marine Corps during World War II including members of the town's military brass and firefighters who fought both fires at Red Rock Canyon National Monument.

In 1951, Mountain Home became home to Arkansas' first nuclear power plant when the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) built what is now known as Mountain Home 3 National Laboratory on land donated by local ranchers and farmers. In recent years, mountain home has seen a resurgence in commercial development with several new businesses opening up including a locally-owned grocery store, two restaurants, and a four-story hotel that opened in 2006. Mountain Home also contains several cultural attractions including an elementary school operated by The Salvation Army which offers education around various aspects of Christianity; an art museum which features local artists; and a golf course designed by Augusta National Golf Club member Tom Fazio that hosts events such as The Masters Tournament every year.
