Maumelle is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,539 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. Maumelle was founded in 1881 by J.B. Grimes and named for his daughter, Mamie Belle Grimes. The town was platted in 1883 by James Fenton and named for himmaily grimes, who had been married to Fenton's brother-in-law Amos Hickman. The town was incorporated on April 6, 1907. In 1905 the state of Arkansas bought all of Pulaski County from James Fenton and renamed it Maumelle County; this made Maumelle the only municipality in the county other than Arkadelphia (the county seat) and Rogers City (the largest city). The economy of Maumelle is based largely on agriculture; although there are some small businesses, most residents work in farming or related industries. Manufacturing has also been significant in recent years: two local companies manufacture shoes and apparel; several restaurants offer food services; and a local paper mill provides employment for many local residents. There are also a few small businesses that provide services such as transportation or health care products to customers outside of the agricultural sector. There are no schools within walking distance of most households; however, neighboring Rogers City offers public education through both public school systems and private schools with nearby campuses that serve students from across Pulaski County as well as surrounding counties According to the 2010 census Bureau data*, 94% of residents identify themselves as white Protestant Christians while 2% identify themselves as black atheist or agnostic Americans while 1% identifies themselves as Jews or other religious people

The town of Maumelle, Arkansas was founded in 1836 by the Choctaws. The town grew rapidly due to the timber trade and its location on the Arkansas River. In 1853, Maumelle became a territorial seat of the Confederate States of America. In 1865, after the Union army sacked Memphis, Tennessee, Maumelle joined Union forces and was burned by Confederate troops. The town again flourished in the 1870s as a result of cotton farming and mining; however, during Reconstruction (1868-1877), progress stalled because of racial tensions. In 1929, Maumelle merged with neighboring Pulaski County to form Pulaski County Seat District No. 2.
