Maumelle, Arkansas is the county seat of Pulaski County and it is located in the eastern Panhandle of Arkansas. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Paradise, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pulaski County was organized on November 3, 1836 as a result of an act of the General Assembly of Arkansas. The town of Maumelle was chosen as its county seat and it became effective on December 15, 1836. At that time, there were only five other towns in Pulaski County: Arkadelphia (founded in 1827), Westphalia (established in 1830), Jonesboro (established in 1832), Mountain Home (established in 1840), and Pine Bluff (established in 1849). The first courthouse was built within a year of its establishment and served until February 7, 1837 when another building was erected at what is now known as Prairie View A&M University. This courthouse served as the county courthouse until April 5, 1861 when a new courthousewas constructed by architects John Leland and Augustus Choate for $5,000 which cost less than one-eighth of one percent to build due to advances in construction techniques then available. The existing Beaux Arts style Courthouse still stands today withstood more than two hundred years without major damage. On October 11, 1896 Pulaski County formed a new municipality called First National City which included all but six of the present day Pulaski County including Maumelle. On January 2nd 1907 First National City merged into Little Rock with all but four current Pulaski County towns joining it including Maumelle forming Little Rock-Maumelle-Pine Bluff Metropolitan Statistical Area

The town continued to grow rapidly during the mid-19th century, thanks to its location on a strategic stagecoach route and its access to timber and water supplies. In 1881, Maumelle became one of the ten towns admitted to the Arkansas Territory; it remained an agricultural community until becoming a city in 1932. Maumelle’s history begins with several pioneer families who arrived in what is now Pulaski County in early 1840s. They were among those who fought during the Mexican American War, fighting alongside such luminaries as General Zachary Taylor and President James Kenedy. Afterward, many of these immigrants took up farming here in northwest Arkansas. The town began growing rapidly due to this growth and commerce; by 1881, Maumelle had over 1,000 residents. The late 19th century saw much growth for Maumelle;zon as a result of new development along railroads that ran through the area. This progressivism also led to new industries being founded here: logging and manufacturing quickly became dominantdue to available resources including woodlands and riverside mills. However, economic hard times followed after World War I; following World War II there was even less industry brought about by postwar technological advancements which left much of northeast Arkansas struggling economically for years afterwards (this situation slowly began reversing during the 1990s). During this time period too,Maumelle experienced significant changes: due largely to white flight after De Forest Land Company shuttered its milling operations around 1960 (the company’s decision helped spur rural black migration into northeast Arkansas), many African Americans moved into town while white people fleeged out or left altogether (by 1970 all but 10 percent of Maumelle’s population was black). As a result of these movements – both legal and illegal – some portions of downtown were initially populated almost entirely by people of color while other parts saw relatively few residents unaffiliated with any race or ethnicity throughout most of their histories (although there has been a recent uptick in minority representation within downtown since 2000). In 2002–2003 efforts were made within city government towards developing arts & cultural initiatives that would promote diversity within citylimits despite ongoing socioeconomic disparities between majority-white neighborhoods nearby (and especially outside) [1]. Arts & culture have become increasingly important both locally[2]and nationally[3], particularly given increasing calls for more inclusive society&emdash;particularly against racism&efqh;which continues unabated across social media platforms&erstwhilephoning&eqh;to local businesses demanding they act on complaints about bias&fgah%;however little action has been taken thusfar #4AgainstRacism
