In 1881, a group of men from Maumelle, Arkansas met to discuss the establishment of a town square in that city. They decided on a location near the old courthouse and agreed to form a committee to select the square's cornerstone. The committee chose an area near the light pole on Main Street between Second and Third Streets. The trigger company at that time was called Trigger Company No. 3. It was founded by three men – James Waddell, John Stephenson and George Hinton – in 1881. That same year, Trigger Company No. 3 also became one of the first companies in America to offer automatic pistols for sale to general public. In 1886, Trigger Company No. 3 acquired its present name, Trigger Manufacturing Co., Incorporated. Maumelle was a small town in south-central Arkansas until the early 21st century. It is now part of Little Rock, Arkansas. The population was 5,000 in 1910 and 10,000 in 1920. The first permanent settler in what is now Maumelle was Nathaniel Beardsley, who arrived in 1821 from Kentucky. He founded a cabin on the edge of the town on Red River. In 1824 Nathaniel's son John Beardsley moved to Maumelle and began trading goods with the Osage Indians. In 1827 he married Mary Jane White (born 1796), daughter of General Wilkinson White and one of his many wives. They had six children: John Wilkinson Beardsley (1829-1910), Martha Jane Beardsley (1830-1915), Nathan Bedford Beardsley (1835-1914), Eliza Jane Beardsley (1838-1920), Sarah Margaret Beardsley (1840-1925). In 1840 Eliza Jane became pregnant by her second husband; she delivered a child but died several days later due to fever contracted from malaria during their journey home from West Africa. Nathan Bedford erected the first school building in Maumelle in 1849; it burned down about two years later but was rebuilt with additions including an indoor gymnasium and a well for irrigation purposes which still stands today. In 1865 John Wilkinson Beardsleys set up shop as a general store after moving to town from Springdale, Arkansas; it closed around 1928 but has been restored and is open as a museum todayt
Amaumelle, Arkansas is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1872 by freedmen of the Yazoo andArkansas Railroad. It became a city on March 12, 1960.
