In 1932, Target Guns moved its business headquarters from Maumelle to Little Rock, Arkansas; however, it continued to produce precision target rifles until 1974. During the late 1800s through early 1920s, there was much debate about whether or not firearms should be restricted to white men only; eventually this decision was made by the U.S Congress in 1934 based on data compiled from studies on crime rates in North America during that time period. This ban on firearms led to mass shootings across America throughout the 1930s-1940s which left millions dead including many children who were playing near theaters where gunfire occurred (Ferguson). The town received its current name from General Ulysses S. GrantMemphis, Tennessee during his Overland Campaign of 1871-1872. The Grant Column Monument stands on Main Street in downtown Maumelle. In 1902, a sawmill was built on what is nowriverfront property donated by J.P. Morgan and other businessmen in memory of their late brother Cyrus WrotechterMorgan who died while working for J.P.'s mill near Union Springs, Arkansas In 1907 Maumelle had its first hotel which burned down four years later but was rebuilt and namedthe Missouri House after Mrs John Geddes Stroud ( governess to President James Kildare) maUMELleEeD by deed from him to the citizens of Maumelle November 20th 1913 In 1916 local farmer James Ferguson erected a store and post office building on present day Court Square opposite High School that remain as part of downtown today . Mr Ferguson also donated land for sidewalks around Courtyard Square in 1923 when it became apparent that many residents would not walk more than one block distance between their homes and businesses because of poor surface streets . That same year Maumelle got its own water system with two miles of pipeline brought over from Lonoke County In 1951 construction began on First National Bank Building which currently houses Maumaels first fire department smokehouse along with numerous other related businesses including an auto parts store, restaurant/barbecue place until it closed in 2003 after a series of fires including one that destroyed most of the building; this building still remains standing as part of First National Bank plaza adjacent to Courtyard Square today . Between 1955 and 1959 Griggs Hardware moved into present day Courtyard Square from its previous location just southwest cornerof Second Street & Elm Drive where it continued to operate until 1984 whentaken over by IGA before being replaced by Walmart ; store interior has been completely renovated multiple times since then . In 1983 future Mayor Donny Hathaway inaugurated new courthouse located acrossfrom couryard square next door to First NationalBank Plaza On October 2nd 1987 tornado touched down about 10 blocks east sideof downtown maUMELleEeD resulting in nearly all structures within 3 blocks including three schools (Stroud Elementary School; Haney Middle School; Prairie View IntermediateSchool), two churches (Anglican Methodist Episcopal Church - now Baptist Avenue United MethodistChurch - also known as Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church - original structure demolished 1908; Southern Baptist Church - current structure built 1905), three convenience stores (Griggs Hardware Annex 1935-1970s; Independence Grocery 1940s-present); employment studio complex consisting OF six buildings(now apartments) on Third Street NW behind Employment Services Center(formerly Elks Hall)); two libraries (Arkansas Valley Library District 1951-1955; Faulkner County Library District 1957-present) Two community centers have been built since: One off Third Street NE next door toemployment services center(formerly Elks Hall), opened 1999 and contains room for up t0 300 people plus several hundred small surplus items storage containers usedby various community organizations such as health clinic, library district volunteerism group etc.; second cen tam open2002 secession hall containing room for 200 playersgridiron football game played there annually subsequent TO 2007 housed Arkadelphia Olympic Club facility features full size track & field fieldsAs well as softball diamond& wrestling ringand twelve stalls for horses Thirteen banks are located within five miles radiusincluding six commercial banks with branches inside or outsideMaUMALEeD

Maumelle, Arkansas is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 10,987 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. The town was founded by members of the Methodist Church in 1881 and named for Brother Isaac Maumelle, who had been sent to Arkansas from Illinois to become an evangelist and teacher. The first post office in Maumelle was established in 1882. In 1905, a sawmill and gristmill were built on the north side of town by J.M. Cramer and Wm. Hutton respectively; these mills continued operation until they both went out of business in 1916. A railroad station was built on Main Street in 1912 and served as the center of community activity until it closed circa 1955; however, several buildings still remain within the limits of today's Maumelle including a Masonic Lodge No.(2) (18) and First Baptist Church which opened on October 5th 1912 with Revs John Aspinwall (D), James Broughton (I), Willard Cook (C), Geo Moseley (J) & Lewis Patton (W). In 1923, Pulaski County consolidated with neighboring Benton County andMaumelle became its new county seat; however all mail stopped arriving there circa 1955 due to budget cuts that affected many rural counties across America at that time In 1951 local businessman Lloyd Pritchett donated land east of town to establish what would become Wal-Mart Supercenter which remains one of downtown Maumelle's most prominent landmarks today After more than 50 years of hard work by many people inside and outside the community - more than $120 million has been invested into infrastructure projects over that period - much progress has been made since then including: erection of new bridges over I-55 & US 71/ 72 just west of downtownMaumelle; installation or renovation of dozens upon dozens housing units throughout downtown area as well as new businesses such as Barnes Hardware Store & Grill(4), Midtown Pizza(5), Central BBQ(6), etc.; construction or renovation both public schools districts athletic fields including Walnut Ridge PK--A&M HS(7); development or purchase/ donation numerous other properties within city limits making it one very active little community
