In the early 1800s, Maumelle was a small town in south-central Arkansas known for its gun business. The town had one gun store, which sold rifles and shotguns. Gun owners in Maumelle used their firearms for sport and protection. On November 3, 1903, three men robbed the only other gun store in Maumelle. The robbers took about $5 from the store owner and ran away with two guns. The gun industry went through tough times during the twentieth century. In 1939, the National Firearms Act banned all handguns except those registered by federal agencies. This law made it difficult for people to buy weapons without registration. Gun ownership remained an important part of Arkansas culture until after the Second World War when violence began to increase in the state. Gunowners defended their homes and families with their firearms against crime.

Maumelle, Arkansas is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,871 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. Maumelle was founded on October 15, 1872 by Alexander McMillan and his family. The town was named for Maumelle Creek which flows through the town. The first settler in what is now Maumelle was General James Hays who arrived in 1868 from Illinois and claimed land east of present day Maumelle along the Smoky Hill River valley. He built a log cabin near present day Highway 63 and called it "Haysville". A post office was established at Haysville on December 7, 1868, and remained in operation until it closed on July 1, 1886. On September 10, 1870 George Withers came to what is now Maumelle with his wife Wilma Withers and their five children after traveling overland from Missouri. They founded a trading post here which they named "Withersville". A post office operated under this name until it closed on January 12, 1924. In 1872 Alexander McMillan settled here with his family; he had earlier come from Indiana via Memphis to pursue an education at Central Michigan University (now Western Michigan University). In addition to farming operations – maize and beans were early crops grown here – McMillan opened a general store where he sold goods throughout eastern Arkansas including parts of Oklahoma Territory before the Kansas-Oklahoma Treaty closed that area off from settlement in 1907 (see History of Oklahoma Territory). He also became involved in politics as a Democrat representing Pulaski County during Reconstruction; he served as Sheriff from 1865 to 1870 then as Treasurer from 1870 to 1873 before becoming Mayor of Maumelle in 1880 concurrent with serving as Pulaski County's representative to the Arkansas State Legislature starting that year but leaving when statehood became effective that November 14th due to disagreements surrounding voting rights within the newly admitted state (Arkansas would become an integral part of the Union following its admission into Confederation following the Civil War). McMillan died suddenly aged 70 years old on March 17th 1902 while residing at home near present day Highway 6 south of town while attending a Masonic ritual attended by many local dignitaries including Governor John Blythe (a former friend), future Ulysses S. Grant Woodruff Jr., Postmaster General James Grewalter and other key figures during Reconstruction era in Little Rock circa 1889 - 1893 wearing military dress having just returned home after leading Army cavalry charge against Confederate forces at Battle Of Tippechee ). His wife Wilma later remarried another man some time prior to her death also aged 70 years old known only as Mrs George Withers . Their six surviving children: Alexander McMillin (born October 15th 1872), Muriel McDowell (born May 5th 1875), William Ewing McMillin (born February 25th 1880), Helen Margaret McNaught McNaught (born October 21st 1888), Anna Elizabeth McFarlane McKenzie Wright (born December 20th 1895)and Mary Kathryn McAuley Wright distanced themselves all increasingly developing strong ties with those living within close proximity growing older adults congregating around various churches & social clubs located throughout downtown core dating back To earliest days Of civilizationtieseheritage #7

Maumelle, Arkansas is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Maumelle was George Catlett. He built a cabin on the northeast corner of what is now First and Second Streets in 1836. A post office called Catlettville was established in 1837, and remained in operation until 1851. In 1858, James Denton founded a sawmill and gristmill just east of present-day Maumelle on the north fork of the White River. The mill was destroyed by a fire in 1861; however, it reopened soon after as the Jordon Saw Mill Company. In 1865, John Sitton organized what became known as "The Goodnight Gang" to rob traders during the night nearpresent-day Maumelle; they were caught and hanged by local sheriff's deputies that year. A store opened at 7th Street & Sitton Boulevard in 1870 named The General Store & warehouse after General John Ewing'sstore that had also been destroyed by fire two years earlier (the general store burned down again about 1920). The store continued to operated until 1933 when it closed due to lack of customers; however, some items from it still remain on display inside the current building today (it has been declared a historic landmark). From 1904 until 1907 one of Arkansas' earliest radio stations - WKBT - originated from Maumelle with studios located on Third Avenue between Seventh and Eighth Streets; later this station moved its operations to Arkadelphia before terminating operations completely in 1949. In 1957 Priscilla Castleman became Miss Arkansas pageant for both Upper Middle Class and Girls Districts with her victory at an event held at Lindbergh Fieldhouse west of town; she would go on to becomeMiss America twice more before her death in 1984 aged 89 years old which remains unconfirmed though she did live most recently within close proximity to Maumelle proper since her death There have also been numerous movie productions shot or filmed here including "Hannibal", "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Arkansas".
