Maumelle is a small, rural town in Arkansas. It is located on the banks of the Ouachita River, about 25 miles south of Little Rock and 30 miles north of Fayetteville. The population was 7,113 at the 2010 census. The town site was laid out in 1892 by W. H. Coker and J. B. McConnell as part of a larger ranching area stretching from Maumelle to Prentiss and east to White Sands Lake and on to Arkadelphia-Westphalia County lines. Originally named Eldorado because gold had been discovered there in 1885, Maumelle reverted to its original name in 1902 when it became part of Pulaski County. In 1943, during World War II, General George Smedley Butler made an amphibious landing on the banks of the Ouachita River at Maumelle for his invasion of Normandy; local residents helped provide food and water for military vehicles ashore while they unloaded supplies at Navy ships anchored offshore. A post office opened in 1893, and remained in operation until 1959; it was renamed Eldorado after Gold Rush days when ore was found near present day Eldorado Lake and maumelle river settlements were founded nearby (the first being what is now White Sands). The first store built here was called "Junction" but changed its name to "Eldorado" due to objections from other stores that would open up next door about how their names looked too similar (Eldorado had been used by Junction prior to this). The first school was established here in 1896 as "Prairie View". A second school followed suit two years later (this time with a brick building). In 1904 an Agricultural Experiment Station operated here for six months under Drs John Wesley Powell and James Harlan Dixon before being closed due to lack of funds; however, similar experiments were conducted at much later points throughout Pulaski County government including those conducted at Arkansas State University which are still ongoing today as ARIS Research Centers - http://www.arisresearchcenters dot com/. For many years there have been three churches located within walking distance: First Presbyterian Church (1902), Second Presbyterian Church (1904), Third Presbyterian Church (1907) which were all razed around 1970s due to rustling within Membership & Congregationalist decline elsewhere across Pulaski County & lack of funds reopening/replacing them etc.. Today’s only church still standing is United Methodist: Evangelical ProtestantChurch #2 located directly off I-20 just east side off exit 20B just past Sheriff’s Department

Maumelle is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 8,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. The city was founded in 1872 by Jacob and Anna Smith. It was named after Maumelle, Alabama, where Anna's father had been born in 1819. The first post office opened in 1875 and the current one in 1903. In 1907, the city became part of the new Arkansas Territory when it was created from parts of Louisiana and Texas. In 1912, the town got its own newspaper which continued to be published until 1951 when it merged with the Pulaski Daily News. On July 1, 1959, Maumelle became a municipality when it incorporated as a village under Section 3-5-104 of the Arkansas Constitution. The first mayor was Averill Hogue (1912-1916). In 1984–1986 two notable floods hit Maumelle; one caused by Tropical Storm Rita and another caused by Hurricane Allen combined into one disastrous event that filled much of downtown with water for days afterwards; total damage amounted to $1 million ($ as of 2019).

It was founded by a group of French Canadians in 1836 as a trading post on the White River. In 1845, it became the center of an agricultural settlement developed around nearby Fort Smith. In 1898, Maumelle became a city after it was granted city status by the Arkansas General Assembly.
