Maumelle, Arkansas is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. The town was founded in 1884 by the Maumelle Baptist Church and named for General George A. Maumelle of Mobile Bayou fame, who had served as governor of Alabama and general in the Mexican-American War. The current site of Maumelle was first settled by a group ofMormon settlers in 1892 when they left Nauvoo, Illinois after being driven out by local Mormons. In 1902, post office issues were changed from "Maumelle" to "Maumelle." In 1903, John Witherspoon Gilmore opened what would become the first store in downtown Maumelle with his brother Willard Witherspoon Gilmore also owning a restaurant on Main Street which served as headquarters for many businesses including a shoe store operated by Laddie Sperrin & Company until it closed its doors in 1922 due to prohibitionism. After World War II ended hostilities between the United States and Japan, business picked up rapidly for locals and immigrants alike as hordes of newly arrived Americans flooded into Arkansas looking for opportunity and new homes. This period also saw an influx of African American residents who had been forced out of their homes during the Jim Crow era in America. Many businesses became racially integrated during this time but not all did so successfully; one such instance was J&B's Department Store which closed its doors after several years due to protests from African American customers over segregated products on sale inside

Maumelle is a small town in Arkansas, located on the Arkansas River. It was founded in 1875 by James Maumelle and his wife, Sarah. The town gained notoriety as the location of the Battle of Chickamauga, which took place in August 1863 during the American Civil War. The battle resulted in a Union victory and ended Confederate resistance to Union advances into central Tennessee. In 1907, Maumelle became one of the first towns in America to be incorporated as an incorporated city. In 1930, Maumelle was designated as the state capital of Arkansas. The city's population reached 100,000 by 1970. The City Council voted to change its name to "Maumelle" in honor of James and Sarah Maumelle.
Maumelle was founded in 1868 by General Samuel J. Boggs and his wife, the former Julia Fenton. The town grew quickly due to its location on a bend in the Arkansas River and its access to timber and agricultural resources. Maumelle became a thriving community, enjoying an active commerce and industry. In 1916, the town voted to secede from the United States and form its own country, which it did in 1927. Maumelle has since enjoyed sporadic growth, with a population of around 60 residents in 2016.
