Marion is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,843 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock-North Little Rock-EastLittle Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Marion was Burt Soffer in 1881. He and his family built a cabin on a knoll overlooking the town. In 1901, Soffer sold land to J. Gordon Allred for $1,000. Allred founded the First Baptist Church in Marion in 1907 and platted the town on November 5 of that year with money he had earned as an investment banker. In 1911, cashier at Guaranty National Bank Harry Hargrave donated land to build a school which eventually became Union High School (now McNeese State University). The first classes were held in 1913 under teacher Lillian Woodruff. The current high school was completed in 1959 and named after Mrs. Marion Kappeler who chaired the committee that designed it along with her husband Homer Kappeler Jr., then superintendent of schools for Pulaski County On October 13th, 1957 Benton Fenton shot and killed three people – Melvin Fleming-Jones (19), Vernon Barnes (21) and Leroy Hudson (29) – outside of their home on US Highway 169 near Tellico Plains as they left for work; all three men wereisin

In 1911, the school became White Hall School. It served as a high school until 1978 when it became Marion High School. In 2006, White Hall School merged with nearby (and now defunct) White Settlement School to form Marion-Whitehall High School.
