The shop was located on the corner of Third and Pennsylvania Streets in what is now the downtown area. The store was open for business until 1949. In 1904, a man named Wm. Haltom established an ammunition store in Marion that became one of the largest such stores in Arkansas at that time. In 1945, Wm. Haltom's son-in-law, Frank Beal took over ownership of this store and renamed it GUNSIGHTS & AMMO SHOP INC.. It remained operational until 1978 when it closed its doors for good. The Gun Sight and Tackle Shop's legacy continued through subsequent generations as well; one grandson, Don Haltom opened his own gun sight business in Marion in 1984 which continues to operate today under the name DON'T MISS GUNS! Gun sights have been a part of local history ever since!

In 1907, Marion became the site of what is now known as one of America's most famous executions - that of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh. McVeigh was convicted of bombing two federal buildings in Oklahoma City on April 19th, 1995 and executed by lethal injection on May 6th, 1995 despite pleas from family members for him to be spared because he had no mental health issues
In 1847, Marion was founded as a Township in Pulaski County by Levi Coffin and David Van Meter. The town was named after General Zachary Taylor who was then U.S. Army General commanding the West Tennessee Territory during the Mexican-American War. The first post office opened in 1851, and the first store opened in 1865. In 1889, the name of the town changed to Marion after James A. Garfield, who served as President of America from 1881 to 1885
