Magnolia is a small town in northwest Arkansas. The population was 1,814 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Conway, AR metropolitan area. The Magnolia post office was established on December 15, 1882, and served until it was discontinued on October 15, 1966. The first settler in Magnolia was James Cothern who arrived in 1883. He built a log cabin on a knoll overlooking the present-day community. John Witherspoon came to Magnolia in 1886 and started a grocery business which he operated until his death in 1917. His son John Witherspoon Jr., continued the family grocery business until his death in 1952. It is said that early settlers were either farmers or fishermen who used their land for agriculture and fishing only during the summertime when they could be away from home. In 1895, Heman Cason added an addition to his farm which included a store with two floors and four bedrooms upstairs and downstairs as well as two rooms for storage below ground level with an arsenal of shotguns hidden inside! This makes him one of the first recorded developers of Magnolia! In 1906, Jerald Pumphrey purchased one acre (0.36 km²) of what would later become known as "Pumphrey's Hill". This parcel then became known as "Magnolia Heights" after Jerald Pumphrey's grandson Milton Epps purchased it from Mr Pumphrey in 1951. From 1951 to 1960, Magnolia had its own city government with Mayor Aiken serving as head of government while City Manager Payton led day-to-day operations; however this changed when Conway County annexed Magnolia into North Conway on January 1, 1961 effective date! On November 3rd 1959 by order of Gov Orval Faubus citizens went into effect Poll Tax revolt against new county ordinance requiring voter registration before voting! After some back and forth between local officials & state troopers over control of polling places - including efforts by Governor Faubus's top aide David Pryor to get physical protection for precinct captains - all but one poll tax vote was voided following public outcry & threats by angry mobs; this effectively ended any hope that reformers had of making significant change within the short time frame allotted them! The townsfolk quickly reconstructed their homes & businesses - many still wearing badges proclaiming "Magnolia First!" -Eager to start anew under new leadership Even today there are many reminders throughout downtown about how things once were: several large cast iron pylons/posts dating back to around 1900 stand prominently near Main Street; numerousick lived above Fisk Drugstore until 1978 when they sold out & moved downmarket; original redbrick school building now functions as apartments; central heating system installed circa 1910 due largely to lobbying by Businessmen Charles “Chip” Lenoir (& wife Hazel) prior to World War II... Today much has changed since those earliest days: GNRHPRA hazardous waste management plans have generated serious opposition (& protests), residents continue partisan politics through Town Council meetings where major decisions are made without input from most residents (especially younger ones), few original buildings remain standing although replacements have been erected virtually every decade or so...Magnoliians enjoy plenty OF rainfall year-round--some call it "the best rain you'll ever experience"...Their biggest problem may be lack thereof: no sewage plant allows water runoff ontoStreets leading ultimately upriver TO Arkadelphia thereby contributing greatly TO high rates FOR water usage (& sewerage overflows); drainage problems also exist along main street due potential flooding eventuate anytime heavy rains occur

Magnolia is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,816 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–Fayetteville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Magnolia was Mr. Price on October 12, 1871. He and his wife grated land and built a log cabin near what is now the post office building. The family name may have been derived from "magnolia," meaning "a large tree yielding fruit." In 1875, three brothers - George W., Lafayette E., and James A. Price - founded the Magnolia Agricultural Society to improve stockraising techniques and promote agricultural products in the area around their farmstead north of town. In 1886, Cotton Mather opened his store in downtown Little Rock and started selling goods to farmers in the area south of town including those living aroundMagnolia Creek (now known as West Ark.) Mather's venture helped start a new era for trade between Magnolia and Little Rock that continues to this day; today many people in both cities know about him thanks to his store's continued impact on local commerce! On July 10, 1907 an act providing for creation of Pulaski County was approved by the Arkansas General Assembly. On October 1st of that year John Gifford became its first county Judge with offices located at what is now First Baptist Church (southwest corner of Main Street & White Avenue). On November 3rd 1908 tornado struck central Pulaski County killing six people (the deadliest tornado outbreak on record) within a few hours!Magnolia narrowly escaped damage but saw extensive destruction with homes destroyed or seriously damaged including several churches (including First Baptist), schools (including Central High School which still stands today), businesses (Haggen's grocery store being one notable casualty), mills (Smithers restaurant remaining standing today), two churches(Alamo Missionary Baptist & Second Presbyterian), two homes- one belonging to Mrs Fenton(one surviving until recently)and an old mill/lumberyard located just southeast of town along South US Highway 171 which collapsed during freakishly strong winds associated with Hurricane Charley later that week! As if all this weren't enough adversity, on December 5th 1907 another devastating tornado touched down just outside Magnolia destroying most everything within six blocks centered around Third Street & corresponding alleyways leading eastward from it including all five stores mentioned earlier plus damaging dozens more homespun dwellings primarily west of Third Street across Clay Road from Pritchett’s grocery store having sustained significant damage as well! This event remains one of history’s worst natural disasters anywhere within our borders let alone right hereabouts affecting not onlyMagnolia but neighboring towns too!!
