Magnolia is a town in Webster County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. The Magnolia Historic District is a National Register of Historic Places listings in the town. Magnolia is located on U.S. Route 412 east of Fayetteville. The first settler in what became Magnolia was James Cone in 1824. He and his family arrived from Kentucky and started to raise corn and other crops near what is now the eastern edge of town. They named their land "Magnolia" after a nearby tree that grew plentifully on their farmstead. By 1830, about twenty families had moved to the area and began farming cotton, potatoes, pork chops, wheat and other crops as well as raising hogs and chickens on their own plantations until statehood made slavery illegal in Arkansas in 1836. In 1864, when Arkansas became a Confederate state during the American Civil War, many people left for fear of being drafted into the Union army. Those who remained (about seventy-five families) established themselves primarily as farmers but also built churches and businesses including stores, post offices and hotels until 1865 when Alabama seceded from the Union with its own secessionist movement known as the Confederacy; this led to increased military activity aroundArkansas' border with Georgia which caused more people to move out of Magnolia into neighboring counties such as Pulaski[2][3] which were then annexed by Arkansas following initiation of martial law by Confederate President Jefferson Davis.[4] In 1865 allusion was made to "the lost magnolias" when General John A.] Johnston's army cut off Fort Sumter,[5] effectively ending slavery in North America for all but white slaveholders present within Confederate territory; however this did not end Reconstruction efforts throughout much of southern America due to continued fighting between pro-slavery forces Prussian-aligned Confederates under Robert E.] Lee & Ulysses S.] Grant vs Southern states allied with Lincoln’s Republican cause[6][7][8]. After Johnson’s death in 1865 Congress passed an act providing for black suffrage within newly admitted states such as Texas,[9] leading to voting rights for African Americans beginning January 6th 1870 when Andrew Johnson became president; this event would eventually result in passage of the 14th Amendment granted voting rights nationwide on February 2nd 1870.[10][11][12][13] As cotton prices plummeted during World War I due to bollworm Enterobacter cholerae infestation caused by Phytohaemus destructor (Pedi), many farmers turned towards cashcrop production such as soybeans or sorghum instead; however these investments failed due to late planting/poor yields along with price fluctuations typical during war years[14]. Since World War II there has been significant growth both residential [15][16], professional [17], light industrial [18], retail services [19],[20], entertainment industry [21],[22],[23], agricultural production through agribusinesses such as Tyson Foods Incorporated – one of largest employers outside urban areas – while also contributing significant tax revenues statewide supporting education (including public schools) healthcare (including Medicaid), infrastructure development including Interstate Highway System construction since 1955 connecting Ark., Memphis & Dallas,[24],[25],[26]; housing developments such as Rivercrest Village - homebuilt by bank CEOs who bought large parcels east of town along US 412 -[27],[28]; commercial properties; most notably Walmart Supercenter located adjacent to Interstate 20 just south of downtown where employment has grown steadily over recent decades totaling some fifty thousand jobs directly or indirectly associated with Walmart across all levels including hourly wages up above $15/hour followed by benefits averaging $8/week plus vanpooling opportunities available for employees working long hours combined outside school hours without loss Of pay.[29]} Today Magnolia sleeps only eighteen hundred citizens but still manages an active business life complete with festivals annually showcasing arts & crafts demos local restaurants nightly open air music shows country dancing tournaments golf tournaments tennis events etc.; school districts have closed because students are now required attend state institutions like EasternArkansas Community College or Little Rock State University starting Spring 2019

Magnolia is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. Magnolia was incorporated on April 1, 1907. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Conroe, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Magnolia" comes from two different places: one meaning large live oak and one meaning white magnolia ( Taxodium distichum). The first place where this name was used is probably in Putnam County which is adjacent to Magnolia Creek. This creek may have been named for the large live Oaks that grew thereabouts. The second source of the name may be as follows: it was given to a group of settlers who came to what is now Magnolia in 1868 by Major John Hargrave. At that time there were no trees like magnolias found around present-day Magnolia so they called this new settlement "Hargrave's Grove". As early as 1851 George Washington Carver had land located near what became Magnolia on what is now Highway 22. He started out with some farmsteads and eventually developed over 100 acres of land includingMagnolia Lake in 1901 when he donated it to the state of Arkansas for use as a nature reserve carrying his initials superimposed upon it (Carver LandArkansas State Park). In 1909 Mrs. Lillian Carver donated 522 acres adjoining her husband's land east of Highway 22 to form Broyles National Forest which remains today one of America's most intact forest preserves with much natural remaining virgin forest including many magnolias (). The Carvers also contributed funds towards building replica homeson their home island just off Highway 22 between Broyles and Magnolia Lakes in 1957; these are still standing () but their Hurricane Katrina damage has rendered them unusable (). There are several other contributing family members listed below: Fredrick Dickey (), Frances Eunice Hamm (), James Wertheimer (), Ida Mae Green (); Clyde Barker (); Vernon Barker (); Gladys Barker (); Arthur Swayne ().
