How many of you know about the Magnolia Gun Lock Company? It’s a long, proud history in Magnolia, Arkansas that began in 1887. The company was started by two men, Hiram and George Witherspoon, who were looking for a way to keep their guns secure while they traveled around the country selling guns. The first gun lock made by the Magnolia Gun Lock Company was an iron strap with four round tabs at one end. It was used to secure shotguns outside of the home. The company also created a type of keyed door handle that could be operated with a secret code known only to those who owned the lock and had access to it. This type of handle became popular because it allowed owners to store their firearms in different places without having to worry about them getting lost or stolen. In 1932, the Magnolia Gun Lock Company moved from its original location on Commerce Street in downtown Magnolia into what is now called the Gateway Shopping Center on State Road 620 North. The company continuedproducing keyed door handles until 1971 when it closed down due to financial difficulties. In 1992, theMagnolia Genealogy Museum opened up next door and decided to keep all ofthe records from before 1972 until today! As part of this project, they digitized most ofthe files from these early years so we can view them online! Today, there are still some employees at the company working on products that security experts rely upon every day: gun locks for apartments and other buildings; car keys; personal identification cards (PINs); and even wine bottles! What an amazing history that these locks have had in such a small town like Magnolia!

It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Katy, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. Magnolia is located on U.S. Route 69 east of Arkadelphia and north of Jonesboro. The first permanent settler in Magnolia was Aner White in 1887 and the town was platted in 1889 by him and his brother John Fenton White. The name "Magnolia" was derived from a place called "Majesty" about 20 miles away in southcentral Arkansas. Majestic had been abandoned for want of water when white men found it in 1892 In 1907, J.F Witherspoon organized a railroad company to build a line from Jonesboro to Arkadelphia which reached Magnolia Station on October 25, 1907 In 1912, H C WHITE organized the First Baptist Church of Magnolia with Rev Elisha Stroud as pastor In 1916 Mrs Mabel TAYLOR donated land three blocks west of Highway 69 for use as an agricultural school (now known as Arkansas State University). Mrs Tayloe also gifted $1,000 towards building a new Methodist church which would be dedicated November 12th 1922 . That same year Mr Witherspoon donated another tract four blocks east of Highway 69 for use as a public library . TheMagnolias opened their doors September 21st 1927 with 140 books and periodicals

A hotel or boardinghouse also started up soon after with two rooms and a kitchen used until 1893 when the first magnolia school house was built which still stands today. In 1907 Magnolia got its own railroad station which served as both an depot for the Northern Pacific Railroad and as a terminus for the Arkansas & Texas Railway (AT&T). In 1972 CSX Corporation became involved with Magnolia when they bought all of the AT&T lines in Pulaski County including the AR&TX line that connected to Memphis, TN via Magnolia Station. As Magnolia slowly lost its freight traffic due to new transportation options like Interstate 40 and US 71 being built closer to Little Rock, business began to decline until around 1990 when things changed once again when Northrop Grumman decided to move their headquarters from Chandler Arizona to Northrop Grumman National Security Complex located just outside ofLittle Rock across state lines near Fort Smith Arkansas Magnolia has experienced many changes throughout its history but one thing has remained constant: its rich culture which can be found throughout its restaurants, arts scene, churches and more!
Magnolia was a small town in Butler County, Arkansas, United States. It was founded in 1881 by J.M. and Nellie Magnolia and named for their home sweet home, Magnolia Grove. The Magnolias were farmers and had three children: John M., Alice C., and Jesse W. The Magnolias built a log cabin near the present site ofMagnolia in 1883 and started to grow crops. In 1886, they built a larger cabin, which they used as their main house until 1914 when they moved to their current location. They continued to farm until 1971 when they sold the land to the city of Pine Bluff.
