In 1902, Pettit Brothers merged with Stephens Petroleum Company which also drillin' near Little Rock including Pettits Well No 2 but ceased production due to antitrust concerns between Stephens Petroleum Company and oil companies at that time led by John D Rockefeller (the newly formed Standard Oil) although some wells were still drilled by Stephens until 1906 when they merged into Rockefeller's Standard Oil Co., again drilling rigs being used during those years until supplanted by modern technology eventually leading to their complete abandonment beginning 1969 when all operations were decommissioned).
