Jonesboro is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,746 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–East Stroudsburg, AR Micropolitan Statistical Area. Jonesboro was founded in 1881 by John Dickson Jones and named for him. The town has been described as "a quiet oasis" in Pulaski County and home to many businesses such as banks, restaurants, hotels and retail stores. The primary source of income for most residents is agriculture which includes crops such as cotton, corn and soybeans. Many people also work in nearby cities or counties including North Little Rock and Arkadelphia. Jonesboro's history can be traced back to 1881 when John Dickson Jones founded the town on land he purchased from the Creek Nation of Arkansas. At that time it was known as Pine Bluff because of its high pine trees. soon after settlers began arriving in what is now Jonesboro they erected cabins called "Homespun Cabin". This type of cabin became popular among early farmers since it allowed them to maintain their independence from larger plantations without having to leave their homes often times for long periods of time. In 1905 the first post office opened inJonesboro with George Waddell serving as the first USPS mail carrier service provider. By 1922 there were six general stores located within the boundaries of present day Jonesboro with two more opening later that year alone.. In 1951 Gertrude Monroe Keys opened her first restaurant in what is now Main Street corner Store which would later become known as 'The Mom & Pop'. Today there are over 40 businesses operating within the boundaries of present day Jonesboro with many others planned or under construction throughout the 2016-2020 timeframe

Jonesboro is a small town located in the eastern Arkansas County, about 20 miles from the city of Little Rock. The population was 1,644 at the 2010 census. Jonesboro is known for its location on the White River and as a stop on the old Natchez Trace Railroad. The first European to visit Jonesboro was a party of thoroughbred horse owners led by Major John Smith in 1794. The town was founded in 1814 by Capt. David Brown and his family, who named it after General James Biddle Jones, commander of an army that fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1827, Colonel Elijah Parish moved his court house and jail from Arkadelphia to Jonesboro, which became one of the most important settlements in eastern Arkansas County. In 1836, Governor John Crain established a county seat at Jonesboro; however, this decision was repealed two years later when Little Rock became the county seat. In 1851, Jephson Waddell built a mill here and began marketing flour to other localities along the White River for distribution through wagons across Arkansas County. By 1860, he had constructed three mills and exported flour to London and Paris. The Great Northern Railway reached Junction City near Little Rock in 1865; this created an impetus for development around Junction City because goods could be transported directly between these two cities without having to go through Jonesboro or Arkadelphia on their way out (this practice continued until well into the 21st century). By 1870 Union Bridge had been completed connecting Junction City with nearby Decatur; this caused increased traffic congestion around town because goods could now be transported more efficiently than ever before. In 1881 Congressman Hiram Johnson organized a group of businessmen who purchased 2200 acres of land east of junction city and started developing what would become known as “the Prairie” area outside of town limits. This included founding what is now First Baptist Church (1881), manufacturing plants (1885), constructing numerous homes (1910s-1920s), opening several schools (1925-present), as well as contributing money towards building many roads within town limits including Interstate 40/Upper White River Road today’s Main Street inside present day downtown Jonesboro . During World War I – 1918-1921 not only did Addison Mills produce munitions for Allied forces but also produced Army rations for soldiers living east of Highway 441 which passed through village boundaries into enemy territory supplying those troops fighting against both Central American separatists guerrillas bands seeking independence from Mexico while also engaging Ulysses S Grant’s Nineteenth Army Corps engaged mainly along Red River southwestern corner where Vicksburg National Cemetery now stands resulting in thousands killed during that conflict making it one bloodiest battle ever fought by any country during all wars era something unique due largely to technological advances then current battlefield practices still prevailing over 50 years later
