However, Winchester continued to be responsible for most of the firearm production in Jonesboro until 1899 when they merged with superior American arms company Colt Incorporated to form American Armory Corporation which continued producing firearms until 1911

Jonesboro is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 5,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–South Little Rock metropolitan area. Jonesboro was founded on December 15, 1879 by John Jones and his father-in-law, William Fauntleroy. The first post office in Jonesboro was established on January 3, 1880. The first store in Jonesboro was built by Wm. Henson and Jno. Ladd. The first school in Jonesboro was built by Mrs. Purdy in 1881 and named Union School after the Union Pacific Railroad line that passed through the town at that time. In 1886 the present high school building was built; it became known as Jonesborough High School when it merged with North Little Rock High School to form North Little Rock–Jonesborough High School in 1984. The town of Jonesboro experienced a growth spurt during World War II due to its location along Interstate 40 which made it an important recruiting center for the military forces fighting in Europe and Japan; many residents also worked out of nearby factories that were producing munitions during World War II. After the war ended, many businesses closed down due to competition from new malls opening up throughout Arkansas and other states; however, some old businesses such as Griggs Hardware & Grocery reopened because they had been profitable even without customers who lived elsewhere; this trend continued into the 1990s until most small businesses failed within 10 years of opening their doors due to changes in technology or economic conditions outside of Arkansas or nationally (Lloyd 1994).
