Cotton became the major crop until World War II when production shifted to oilseed crops. After the war, Jonesboro grew rapidly as construction workers returned to establish postwar prosperity. Today, Jonesboro is known for its shopping district,activities such as rodeo events and summer festivals, arts and cultural opportunities including theater and art galleries, and its location within easy access of North Little Rock for business purposes.

Jonesboro is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,944 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1881 by white pioneers and named for Colonel James Jones of Georgia. The first post office in Jonesboro was established in 1882. The town was originally laid out as a small farming community on the west bank of the Arkansas River. A sawmill opened there in 1886 and continued to be operational until it closed in 1978. In 1893, Jonesboro became one of the original towns in Pulaski County. The first white inhabitants of Jonesboro were Captain Johnathan Stephenson and his family from Georgia who arrived here with their families on May 10th, 1881. They were followed soon after by other settlers including Captains J E Warrick (1886), George W Smith (1892), Solomon P Cummings (1896) and Eli Coleman (1901). In 1886, two brothers, James Mosely and Amos Wadleigh formed a partnership to operate a lumberyard within the town limits which quickly became an important economic engine for the area. Unfortunately for Mr Mosely & Co., they lost money on this venture within just three years due to competition from more successful lumberyards operated by fellow Arkansans such as Davenport & Marsden Railway Company and Stephens Hardware Company Ltd.. However, despite these setbacks, James Mosely & Co.'s hard work ethic never stopped; they reinvested their profits back into their business until it finally went bankrupt in 1902 due to over-expansionism among businessmen during what is known as "the boom" period preceding World War I when Logistics demand plummeted following America's entry into that conflict nationally. By 1903 however, James Mosely & Co had restarted their business under new management - David H Cooke which would eventually grow into Cooke Industries Incorporated today with operations spanning across many industries including manufacturing logistics transportation construction services information technology retail trade etc.; making Jonesboro one of the most vibrant industrial communities ever located outside of metropolitan areas throughout much of North America during its heyday between 1915-1985 inclusive!
