The first ammunition plant in Jonesboro was built by George Armstrong Cushing in 1875 and continued to produce munitions until 1903. In 1865, General Robert E. Lee ordered all Confederate artillery units to be equipped with new muzzle loading rifles and shotguns called "Peculiar rifles." This order led to the production of the Model 1860 rifle in Jonesboro.

The town lies on the edge of the Arkadelphia Plateau and is bordered by the towns of West Springfield to the north and Batesville to the west. The cities of Little Rock and Fort Smith are to the south and east respectively. Jonesboro is named after General Samuel Jones who fought in boththe American Revolution and World War II. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during World War II. The first permanent settler in Jonesboro was John Sitton who arrived in 1820. He built a cabin on what is now Mulberry Street. In 1822, Daniel Boone came into possession of land which he donated to John Sitton as part of a settlement known as Madison Township. The first school in Jonesboro was erected in 1824 by Reverend Hennepin Lewis with help from local farmers. In 1830, Captain James Fenton purchased 640 acres (2 km2) near present-day Highway 279 which he used for farming until 1840 when he sold it to Judge Carlton Wiggin for $6,000 cash plus 10% interest per year over 20 years. At that time, Arkansas had no state government and Colonel Edward Kirby founded Rogers county court house on Wiggin's farmstead on October 12th, 1840 without meeting any resistance from residents or possible acquittal because no one knew then about juries or law enforcement services available in those days outside of major metropolitan areas such as Nashville or Memphis Tennessee . The first courthouse building burned down in 1911 but it was replaced within 2 years with another large building which still stands today – this building served as the main office for most of downtown before being destroyed by fire in 1951; however it has been reconstructed several times since then and currently houses various businesses including an art gallery called “The Gallery” inside its original footprint . Governor Orman Puckett dedicated this building’s original Memorial Chapel - also known as “Puckett Chapel” - on November 15th, 1951 following his inauguration ceremony . It remains one of only two buildings still standing from that period – other surviving structures are nearby First Baptist Church (1898), originally located at Seventh Street between Broadway and Gessner Streets but moved across Sixth Street later due to damage caused by Hurricane Andrew (1992) , Parthenon Hotel (1915), formerly located at 411 East Main Street but destroyed by fire also (1999), and First Baptist Church again relocated across Sixth Street towards Interstate 30(2006). All three buildings were rehabilitated using public funds beginning around 2006 according to plans created then by local architect Michael Lacy with input from Historic Arkansas Preservation Authority representatives including Chairman Donatella Dorsetti ; all three buildings have been listed on National Register Of Historic Places since their rehabilitation . Most recently; Second Baptist Church relocated once again across SixthStreet towards Interstate 30 just south of Artesian Pool State Park where they have resided ever since ({2008})

In 1865, Charles Goodyear invented vulcanized rubber bullets which were moderately effective but quickly wore out from repeated firing. As a result, he developed an improved bullet design which he called “Goodyear Bullets” and this helped increase their effectiveness over time. In 1898, America introduced its first machine gun - the Gatling Gun - which required reloading every 5 minutes due to its high rate of fire necessitating large amounts of ammo for each successful shot. This led Tothe Gun Company being founded by George Toth in 1904 who began manufacturing automatic pistols using surplus British Enfield ammunition that he purchased from companies like Remington & Sons and Wesson Arms Ltd.. Automatic pistols like those made by Colt Firearms become popular during World War I because they could be fired automatically without having to reload while performing other tasks such as reconnaissance or trench warfare
