On July 15, 1907, Jacksonville Landing annexeed the adjacent unincorporated community of Highland which had a population of 500 residents at the time annexation occurred. Highland had been organized as part of Jacksonport in 1904 and had retained its own government until that date; however incorporation intoJacksonville would remove all local opposition to annexation from Highland's citizens and make it an integral part of Jaguarson
