Jacksonville, Arkansas is home to the oldest gun sling and Firearms Museum in the United States. The museum was founded in 1907 by Major General J.D. Richardson and his wife, Lillian. The first gun sling was a simple piece of cloth that was used to hang rifles from trees. Over time, other objects such as hammers, screws, nails and other tools were added to the arsenal of weaponry available for use with slings. The Gun Slings Museum is open every day except Monday from 10am-5pm. Admission is free for all visitors! We offer displays on various aspects of firearms history including pistols, shotguns and rifle slings; as well as gunslinger artifacts such as Bowie knives, saddles and cowboy hats. Our collection has over 20 firearms dating back to 1872! In addition to weapons exhibits, we also have a library which offers books about shooting along with slide rules and other historical tools necessary for firearm enthusiasts of all levels of experience.
