Jacksonville, Arkansas is a city in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 26,737 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. Jacksonville is part of the Memphis metropolitan area and is one of the most populous cities in that area. The first settlers in Jacksonville were Baptist missionaries who arrived in 1811 from Tennessee. The town was platted as a town on December 12, 1825 by James Fenton and others under the name "Fayetteville." On January 9, 1830, it was renamed Jacksonville after General Andrew Jackson who had served as its governor during the Mexican–American War. The city's first school was built in 1832 on what is now Fourth Street. In 1835 it became a state capital and continued to serve as such until November 1, 1907 when Little Rock became the new state capital. In 1900 Jacksonville had a population of 24 people; by 1910 it had grown to over 100 people due to waves of immigration from Europe and other parts of the world following World War I. A large number of Italians began arriving shortly before World War II which led to their own community called "Rocaforte" (later Rocaforte-Dupont). Japanese Americans also began arriving here during this time frame; however they did not form an organized community like their European counterparts. When World War II started many refugees - including many Japanese Americans - chose to flee into Mexico rather than fight for America because they believed America would sided with Japan against Axis Germany if war happened abroad whereas America would be allied with Germany3 This belief proved false and many American Jews decided to stay behind in order to help rebuild their homes after Nazi occupation4 After Pearl Harbor many more Japanese Americans decided to leave America6 ; however despite this negativity towards Japanese Americans throughout most of World War II there were some limited pro-Japanese activities7

Jacksonville is a city in Arkansas, United States. The population was 24,752 at the 2010 census. Jacksonville was founded in 1881 by John Fenton and named for Jacksonville, Florida. It became the county seat of Pulaski County in 1907. In 1912, it merged with Benton County to create Pulaski County again. The city's name came from its location on the Stroud Canal near present-day Jacksonville Landing which connected the Mississippi River to Indian Pass through Arkansas. The area that now includes Jacksonville was first populated by Osage people and their allies who had overrun most of eastern Arkansas during the late 1800s as part of an effort to stop white settlement in what they saw as their ancestral land. As white settlers began arriving in large numbers, these Native Americans gradually lost ground until they were forced out completely by settler forces in 1881 when John Fenton arrived with his band of pioneers to purchase land from Isaac Andrews and David Whitehat. Fenton's idea for Jacksonville was based on his observation that many people were leaving Florida for other parts of the United States because no one could provide them with goods necessary for life such as food or shelter. He named his new town after a small town he had seen growing up on the Gulf coast of Florida - Jaguars Bay - and hoped that would inspire others to make similar ventures into what he saw as an exciting new place where opportunities awaited them. In 1907, when Pulaski County was created from Benton and Jackson Counties, Jacksonville became its county seat and quickly developed into one of Arkansas' largest cities with over 30,000 residents by 1920. The city experienced several boom years following World War I until it slid into economic depression after the war ended; however, growth resumed once Prohibition took effect in 1925 and businesses began importing alcohol without permits from Canada which increased costs associated with running a liquor store inside a state controlled by federal government prohibitionists. During this time periodJacksonville also becoming known for its annual Jax Jazz Festival which featured some of country music's biggest names including Hank Snow, Willie Dixon and Jerry Lee Lewis among others; however due to racism still lingering throughout much of America following Reconstruction there were few black citizens living within easy reach of downtown Jacksonville so jazz programming often consisted onlyof white performers roaming around central streets insteadofthe more popular venues located closer to black neighborhoods like North End/Frenchtown or Mid-City/Eastside Multiplexes where African American patrons could purchase tickets online or at local convenience stores before attending performances live backstage while being surrounded onlyby whites who often bought tickets directly from promoters rather than taking chances themselves door-to-door (this pattern continued until well into the 1970s).

In 1830, Jacksonville had a population of about 50 people and a school that taught children from preschool to grade school. The first courthouse in Jacksonville was built in 1840 and served as the seat of government for the town until it was replaced by a new courthouse in 1851. In 1865, Jacksonville became a county seat and stayed that way until 1907 when it merged with Pulaski County to form Arkansas County.
