Hot Springs is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,815 at the 2010 census. The name "Hot Springs" comes from the springs that flow through the town. The first people to live in Hot Springs were white settlers from Kentucky who built a cabin around 1828 on the east side of the Spring River. They named their settlement after General James Hogg, an American Revolutionary War general and delegate to Philadelphia. A post office called Hot Springs was established in 1830, and remained in operation until 1907. In 1881, lawyer Wm. Fenton purchased 6 acres (2 ha) of land north of Hot Springs for $5 per acre (0.24 ha). He built a home there and named it "Fenton's Falls." This facility became known as Fenton's Spa when it opened to the public in 1886. In 1901, Fenton donated additional land to the village for use as a park and bathhouse complex including two baths and five miles (8 km) of hiking trails leading to them. In 1906, Reva Ladd moved into her own home near downtown Hot Springs with her husband Harry Ladd, Jr., who had been born there in 1896. They designated their home "Ladd Manor" after Reva's father-in-law Drury Longell Ladd Sr., a doctor and philanthropist who had helped build many medical institutions in Arkansas during the 19th century before dying in 1924 at age 90 years old. Harry Ladd Jr., also served as Mayor of Little Rock from 1957 until his death on February 14, 1967; he is buried at Elmwood Cemetery there with his wife Reva Ladd Mixon him self In 1984 they added an annexe which contained their library services which remain today
