Hot Springs, Arkansas is a small town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest municipality in Pulaski County and has the lowest population density of any municipality in the county. The history of Hot Springs can be traced back to 1872 when James Hutton founded what is now known as Hutton's Campground on land that he donated to the community. In 1905, Hot Springs opened its first post office and began serving residents of neighboring towns such as West Memphis and Jonesboro. By 1930, Hot Springs had become an important center for trade in eastern Arkansas. In 1951, the Arkansas Legislature passed a bill designating Hot Springs as a national historic district. That same year, President Harry S Truman announced his intention to establish a federal park at Hot Springs National Park. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) eventually purchased 1,500 acres adjacent to present-day Hutton’s Campground for the park. The official opening occurred on July 26th, 1955 under then-President Dwight D Eisenhower with ceremonies attended by Ulysses S Grant and Franklin D Roosevelt. Since its establishment as a national monument, Hot Springs has undergone many changes which have affected both its people and its environment. In 1966, local officials proposed developing the town into an amusement park which would have impacted much of downtown Hot Spring Village; however this proposal was met with strong opposition from residents who felt their village should remain unchanged while the development took place across Main Street in nearby West Memphis Township; today part of Downtown East Memphis shopping district known as " plaza ". In 1978–1979 two major floods hit the communityand destroyed most of downtown; however since then efforts have been made to rehabilitate and restore portions of downtown while also creating new businesses along Main Street which bisects Old TownHot Spring Village between east and west sides.; this redevelopment has led to more growth along Main Street compared to older residential areas within town limits where most business activity takes place today

Hot Springs is a small town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 579 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first known permanent human settlement in Hot Springs area was made by Captain John Smith in 1799. In 1819, General Andrew Jackson's army passed through the area and skirmished with Native Americans near what is now Hot Springs. In 1865, during Reconstruction, General Nathan Bedford Forrest occupied Hot Springs and ordered all white people to leave or be killed. Most of the men who remained were burned at the stake or shot by Confederate militiamen under Forrest's orders. On July 4, 1892, a fire destroyed most of the townhall and most of the buildings around it; however, some historical marker remains today (e.g., Stone Cottage). A new town hall was built in 1901 and still stands today; it has been called "the best designed courthouse building ever erected" by an American architect. A post office was established at Hot Springs on November 15, 1903; it served until 1935 when Arkansas statehood replaced mail service with stamps as an election issue for president. The first store operation opened there on December 12th 1905 by J W Reese & Bros.; Reese also operated a hotel which later became known as The Lodge (now known as Best Western). A water powered sawmill started production in 1907 but closed operationsdue to lack of demand from visitors and farmers alike due to increased postage rates set bymailmaster Charles Evans Hughes Sr.. However visitation continued to increase so Hughes reopened the mill after slashing rates several times before finally shutting down due to financial difficulties in 1932-33.; upon reopening he converted it into a power plant producing steam turbines that manufactured electricity for many homes/businesses situated throughout Little Rock including his own home which he used as a powerplant office until his death in 1977.. In 1934-35 major renovations were done to Town Hall which included installation of an elevator system and extensive painting and buffing of metal surfaces inside & outside for Nationalist insignia on shields adorning door handles etc.; prior thereto only wooden doors had been left unpainted because they would have become stained over time from moisture infiltration! On October 1st 1935 Mayor Newton Burbank delivered remarks honoring Orson Welles' inaugural speech given at Ford’s Theatre when President Franklin D Roosevelt gave his address entitled “New Deal” following his inauguration ceremonies earlier that day; during this time much important infrastructure such as paved streets (& streetlights) were also completed within town limits making Hot Springs one of most modern small towns within America period
