Hot Springs is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hot Springs, AR Micropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Hot Springs" derives from the hot springs that used to be located near the town. Today, only one small spring remains in use as a hot water source and hotel baths; however, many people visit the springs for their health benefits including relief from arthritis and other muscle pain, relief from fever, and even vaginal rejuvenation. The first permanent settlers in what is now Hot Springs were Methodists who arrived in 1821. They built a cabin on an east-west branch of Little River which still stands today. In 1824 representatives of Tennessee's First District sent General James Boggs with orders to survey lands for new settlements in Indian Territory north of Arkansas. Boggs named his new settlement Hot Springs after Nicholas Joliet (1792-1864), an American Revolutionary War veteran and landowner who had come to live among the Choctaws on Choctaw Lake near modern day Phenix City, Alabama. After returning home he donated land for a Methodist church and school which opened in October 1830. Ulysses S Grant visited Hot Springs during his presidency (1865-1868) and reported favorably on its climate and natural resources: "There are several good steamboats running between Memphis and Arkadelphia providing passenger accommodations...the Spring has very rich deposits of oil shale". The discovery of oil shaleddrilled wells began production at nearby Vernon by 1907 but it wasn't until 1925 that crude oil was discovered at any depth within 100 miles of Hot Springs proper! In 1924 construction began on the first hospital in Arkansas - Southern Hospital Company Building #1 - which would become known as Stroud Memorial Hospital over time due to its sponsorship by General John Foust (1908-1994). On July 15th 1930 Dr George Washington Carver became Medical Director at Southern Hospital Company Building #1 when HUGHES moved into his old office upstairs from Merrick Pavilion across Main Street...Carver dedicated much work during these years to improve living conditions for patients with respiratory problems such as asthma or chronic bronchitis...In 1933 Carver also served as President of National Association for Health Education (NAHE)...He retired from Stroud Memorial Hospital effective December 31st 1935 having worked there for 54 years...On January 1st 1936 Dr WILBUR DAVIS became Medical Director at Stroud Memorial Hospital Company Building #2 after CARVER's retirement...Davis saw great potential in using Wellesley College's School of Nursing where he had been director since 1934 as well as teaching assistantships available through both institutions...By 1941 Davis' vision had become reality when Southern Hospital Company buildings #2 through 5 were combined into one large complex - known then simply asSouthern Hotel Corporation - under direction of WILLIAM LEE ROONEY who served as President until his death on May 14th 1979.......During World War II Southern Hotel Corporation furnished more than 2 million meals to military personnel stationed overseas......After the war ended Supervised by Governor JAMES GORDON WHITE (D) THE HOT SPRINGS ESTABLISHMENT CONTINUED TO BE A PUBLIC HEALTH ORGANIZATION UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE STATE CHARTERHOUSE KEEPS IT OPERATING TODAY.....Today dozens if not hundreds OF NEW BUSINESSES ARE CREATED EVERYDAY IN USE AND MANY OF THEM ARE PROFESSIONAL SERVICES THAT DO NOT CONTAIN ANY VISITORS FROM THE community......The present day inhabitants are descendants Of those original pioneers who settled here around 1800 AD & included Revolting Bob Newell Sr., Revolting Bob Newell Jr., Mrs Sarah Marshall Greenlaw & their families

Hot Springs, Arkansas is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,936 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Port Huron, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name was given to the springs by General John Custer after his 1876 battle with Sitting Bull and company in Yellowstone National Park. The first people to live in Hot Springs were white settlers who arrived during the early 1800s. By 1830 they had built a cabin on what is now Ulysses S. Grant Boulevard near present-day Springdale High School. A post office was established in 1831, and by 1835 there were ten residents living in Hot Springs. In 1837 another group of settlers arrived from Kentucky and built a log cabin on what is now Old Fort Hill Road northwest of present day Springdale High School. They names their settlement "Montgomery" after General Montgomery who fought at Buena Vista Creek against Mexican forces during the American Revolution. By 1840 about thirty-five people lived in Hot Springs with five businesses: four stores and one blacksmith shop; two churches; and a schoolhouse that taught children from ages six to twelve English and math skills as well as reading and writing. In 1850 two more stores were opened: One operated by Alexander McMillan (later owner of The Evening Star newspaper) located on Main Street between Union Avenue and Commerce Street; the other supply store run by James Burchfield open downriver on State Highway 7 near present day White Sands Boulevard/Ulysses S Grant Boulevard intersection). 6 more businesses opened over the next twenty years including three hotels which became known as "the Five Points": The Windsor Hotel (1851), Poindexter House (1853), Bankers Inn (1860), First National Bank Building (1865), also called Bellefontaine Blockbuster Theater or simply "The Blockbuster" due to its large entertainment schedule for local citizens during that time period including plays, music, operas etc.). During this time period Hot Springs became known for its mineral water services providing drinking water for many homes throughout Arkansas including those located around Fort Smith where it still provides service today along with nearby Springdale which began using it commercially in 1903 . Hot Springs wasn't isolationist like some other towns across America during this time period as it joined several forms of federal government support such as voting rights for African Americans through an act passed by Congress in 1865 known as the 14th Amendment making all citizens “equal before the law” regardless of race or color – something not yet possible elsewhere within America even though laws existed since Colonial times governing slavery! In 1916 when World War I started both Arkansas Govt & US Govt put up billboards throughout town requesting men under 25 years old be drafted into military service because “Somebody has got to protect us”! As if being an isolated community wasn't enough already……!
