Hot Springs is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–West Palm Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Hot Springs" comes from the springs that are located there and provide drinking water for people and animals. The springs were used as an encampment by white settlers in the 1800s. In 1903, General William T. Sherman visited Hot Springs while on his way to battle Atlanta and saw how well it had been restored since then. After his visit, the U.SArmy built a military post at what is now known as Fort Smith Road near the springs in 1904; this post was eventually replaced by Fort Smith University in 1907. In 1923, when Arkansas became a state, Hot Springs became one of its first municipalities and was incorporated as a town on February 14th of that year. On December 5th of that same year, Mayor Dolphus Earle died after being hit by a car while crossing Main Street during morning rush hour; Earle had been mayor for only three months before he died. In 1951, Hot Springs High School was dedicated to Mrs., Edith Gentry Morrison who donated $1 million to build it on land once owned by Ethel Mims US Senator from Arkansas (1902-1960). In 1962, when Interstate 40 bypassed downtown Hot Springs and annexed parts of west Pulaski County,[2] Mayor Jerald Hines asked residents if they wanted to have their high school located within or outside of downtown – with most people deciding against moving their schools because they felt downtown would become too congested.[3] However, because I-40 ran along Broadway Avenue instead of Main Street within downtown boundaries (and also because few businesses wanted their names associated with I-40), Downtown Hot Springs slowly regained someetsy until around 2000 when new development began adjacent to Old Central Park which included several major malls including Walmart Supercenter and Meier & Frank’s Shopping Center[4]. At present day there are no plans for any further construction inside or outside of downtown; however business owners continue social media updates about current events related to Downtown Hot Springs through hashtags such as #DowntownHotsprings[5], #KeepDowntown

Hot Springs is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,078 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Springdale, AR metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Hot Springs was George H. Allman who arrived in 1872 and homesteaded on the north side of Spring Creek. He named his farm "Allman's Ferry", after himself and his brother-in-law Samuel Allman. By 1888, all male settlers had left for fear of being hounded by white settlers from south Arkansas led by William Tipton Perkins who planned to purchase the land from its original occupants for $1 an acre (0.50 km²). In 1892, one year after Tipton Perkins' purchase of the land, John Wesley Hardesty settled near what is now Main Street and Sprague Avenue; he named his place "Hot Springs". In 1898, James Fenton built a cabin on what is now Center Street just west of Highway 82; he called it "Fenton's Ford". In 1907, two men: Orville Calkins and Frank Reeves bought Lots 7 and 8 in Section 6 North of township square from Reuben Jethro Rankin for $5 each with an option to buy more if they could find a buyer within 10 days; they built their own homes there that same year as well as another cabin on Old Gray Road about one mile east of present day Sprague Avenue which became known as "Reeves' Cabin" later. The first store opened in Hot Springs was the Piggly Wiggly grocery store operated by Calkins and Reeves from 1907 to 1910 when it burned down during a tornado that struck Hot Springs on April 14th that year. The first post office was opened in Hot Springs on December 2nd 1908 by Averill Holmes with mail service coming out daily until 1915 when it changed hands 3 times before finally being purchased by Jethro Rankin who reopened it as the First National Bank building which still stands today across Sprague avenue from where it once stood A second store followed suit soon after but closed due to lack of customers or competition from larger stores. In 1912 Orville Calkins donated land offsprague avenue next door to First National Bank so that citizens could build their own water tower which still stands today across Sprague avenue next door to where First National Bank once stood providing townspeople with potable water without having to go farfetched trouble like getting permission or paying high prices at local pharmacies . Another commercial venture started up quite suddenly around this time - White Sands Cigar Company - when Lewis Myers leased space inside First National Bank building & started manufacturing cigars there starting September 1916 until January 1919 when fire destroyed entire building & business shuttered . As businesses dried up or moved away over time most residents turned back towards agriculture although some continued living scattered around rural areas sufficient enough for self-sufficiency through hunting & fishing
