Hope, Arkansas is a small town located in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The population was 1,860 at the 2000 census. Hope is named for the hope of salvation that residents feel during religious services. Hope first came to light due to the construction of the Arkansas and Missouri Railroad in 1882. The railroad company built a depot in what is now Hope and started passenger service between Hope and Little Rock. By 1902, a post office had been established in what is now Hope by J.W. Nicholson (the father of future Governor Orval Faubus). In 1907, when the town became an incorporated municipality, it had a population of just over 100 people; however, by 1912 it had grown to more than 300 people due to development along the railroad corridor. In 1915-16, local merchants formed the Businessmen's Association to promote agricultural production in nearby areas around Pulaski County; this led to increased trade with neighboring states as well as an increase in jobs for locals. In 1916-17, President Woodrow Wilson visited Hope on his tour of west central Arkansas and spent two days there; while here he declared that "Hope is one step closer towards becoming one of America's great cities." The population continued to grow during World War II thanks in part to wartime jobs available at American munitions plants throughout northwest Arkansas (including Hope) as well as access to food storage and other supplies from Illinois via Interstate 40. A large number of Japanese Americans were incarcerated at Fort Robinson Army Depot near Arkadelphia during World War II because they were considered transient aliens – meaning they were not citizens or permanent residents of their countries but instead temporary residents who had entered America unlawfully or without proper documentation2 ; many Japanese Americans died as a result of various diseases contracted while imprisoned3 . After the war ended, many people returned home although some remained living illegally4 . Hope is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Hope grew up around the Hope Furnace and eventually became an agricultural community. Hope is located on the edge of the Arkadelphia Mountains and its elevation ranges from 4,000 to 6,100 feet (1,500 to 2,200 metres). Hope was founded in 1892 by J.D. Shultz as a small farmstead on a lower ridge above the Little White River valley. A sawmill that year produced lumber for local buildings until 1912 when a new mill was built downstream and began producing plastic bottles. The Shultz mill closed in 1942 but reopened in 1949 as Hope Manufacturing Company Inc., which continued operations until 1963 when it merged with Allied Injection Molding Co., now known as Alliant Techs Incorporated.
