Hope, Arkansas is an unincorporated community in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 598 at the 2010 census. It is located on thefork of the White River. Hope was founded in 1889 by Captain A. G. McClure and his wife Cilla as a small post office named for their hope of finding water to irrigate their crops. Hope's history can be traced back over 100 years to when it was first established as a small post office near the present day town of Hope, AR. In 1889 Captains A.G McClure and Cilla McClure opened a small post office in what would become known as Hope,AR after looking for a place to grow their crops because they lacked access to any water resources within reach at that time. At the time Hope consisted of just a few settler homes and had no commercial area other than serving its own residents and local farmers who used it for irrigation purposes only. In 1916-17 when World War I came around, many Arkansans decided to serve in the military due to wartime shortages of food and other necessities such as gasoline which were becoming more common with each passing week. Many served in uniform or were drafted and never returned home; however Captains A G McClure and Cilla McClure decided to keep Hope open while they continued farming their land outside of town until 1919 when they sold all their holdings within town limits (and closed the post office) to settle personal financial issues which had arisen during WWI disability payments for veterans not received as intended or through farm foreclosure proceedings that took place due to lack of production from their land followingWWI/Vietnam War effects). The closing of the post office led directly into today’s resident population growth associated with both economic development (due chiefly theretofore undiscovered oil & gas reserves discovered nearby) along with increased use & visitation opportunities available through internet research services since then especially among those living beyond easy access jurisdictional lines thus increasing tourist industry activity adjacent Interstate 20 corridor between Little Rock AR and Fayetteville AR; thereby also supporting motel occupancy trends generally seen statewide thru out Pulaski County these days notwithstanding some remaining rural areas close by still experiencing significant poverty rates despite technological advancements recently enjoyed herein etc.), resulting finally today’s current overall population figure above 600 people attributable largely thereto!
