In 1902, J F McNaught opened a second store which became one of the most popular in town. It was also from J F McNaught that Hope got its name- "Hope" being derived from his initials, JF. In 1903, Johnnie Cochran established a grocery store at 209 Main Street. This store became very popular and helped to drive out competition in town. From 1909 until 1912, G W McClendon operated the only post office in town with service being provided by mailmen horse drawn wagons throughout the day. The last post office closed down on December 2, 1912 due to lack of customers or equipment necessary for continued operation

The economy of Hope depends heavily on agriculture which accounts for 94% of the local workforce while other industries include manufacturing ( fourteen industrial companies) services (twenty-four firms) Retail trade(eleven store chains) Educational services(tenake academies/schools), Administrative support services(two hospital systems), Health Care Services(Fortis Healthcare Corporation presently operates all seventeen hospitals within Pulaski County as well as providing ambulance service for the citizens), Research & Development activities by government agencies including National Institutes of Health Headquarters located hereabouts as well as numerous research laboratories related to various medical disciplines both domestic and foreign.

Hope's history began with two families who moved from Oregon to central Arkansas in 1907. The Ewings were among the first farmers to settle in this region and hoped their new land would be their final resting place. Unfortunately, they did not have enough children so they decided to move on and start a new life elsewhere. However, their story does not end there – after moving away from Hope, the Ewings took up farming again and continued to send crops back to Oregon until 1940 when they sold their land back to the government for development into what is now Pulaski County. In 1939, when Hope had finally become something more than an unincorporated community, its founders hosted a meeting at which they decided on how best to serve their community within itself while still maintaining close ties with Oregon. They elected a board of directors and created policies that remain in effect today such as having an operating bank account (the first such institution west of the Mississippi), providing free education through secondary schools until high school graduation for all residents regardless of income level (this policy still applies today), making donations annually towards charity projects throughout town (still present), hosting events like picnics and garden parties every summertime since 1909, sponsoring music festivals throughout the year - even going so far as premiering local plays at local venues prior to performances being televised statewide - all without losing touch with what made them truly unique amongst other communities similar unto themselves: hope! The continuing faithfulness of these policies has led Hope residents into some pretty impressive accomplishments; for example, since 2006, local citizens have held an annual golf tournament called The Tournament at Hillcrest Golf Club where proceeds support various causes affiliated with local charities chosen by participants/tournament organizers. In addition thereto are numerous annual pumpkin picking contests during October/November dubbed “Pumpkinfest”; each event drawing tens or hundreds of locals/students together socializing & enjoying delicious pumpkin treats while raising money for various Local Charity Programs
