Hope was founded by white settlers in 1871 as a small town on the White River near what is now Little Rock. The name Hope originated from Mount Hope Cemetery, located in downtown Hope. In 1903, post office officials decided to change the name to Hope because of its geographic location on the Arkansas River and its involvement with education and industry. Hope has experienced significant growth over the years, both economically and socially. The city's first school opened in 1872; by 1907 it had become one of the largest schools in north Arkansas. By 1990, Hope had overtaken Bentonville as the most populous city in Pulaski County. In that year, it became an affiliate member of the National Association for Black Mayors (NABM). Additionally, Hope has been home to many popular cultural attractions such as music festivals and art galleries. The history of Hope began with white settler John Auldridge moving his family from Tennessee to what is now Pulaski County in 1871 after being selected as a part of a group chosen by President Ulysses S Grant to explore new territory west of Memphis through preferential treatment given to blacks due to Reconstruction efforts following America's Civil War. Auldridge named his new settlement after Mount Holyoke College—a prominent educational institution then located miles away along Interstate 40—since he felt this would provide hope for young African Americans who were struggling during Reconstruction times: "We wanted our town named after something good so we could help erase any memory or feeling that our people might have about not being able to do anything." In 1903 local resident J H Hill formed a civic club called "The Pioneer Citizens" which advocated for more active citizenship within their community and worked towards creating better conditions for all citizens including racism-free housing opportunities and education opportunities for black students; these programs later became known collectively as "Hope University". With increasing economic development throughout Arkadelphia Township (now downstream portions of downtown) following World War II came increased housing demand and industrial growth which clashed directly with racial segregationist policies implemented by Des Moines-based Governor Ozzie Kefauver during prewar years; this led eventually to protests within local businesses against discriminatory practices by Des Moines-based management throughout Arkadelphia Township – often euphemistically labelled "Operationainization". Unfortunately for Cosby those days are long gone - he currently resides outside Philadelphia PA where he unsuccessfully ran for mayor 3 times between 2004-2009 before finally winning last time--an election he should have easily won given his current political powerbase inside Philadelphia... Despite lack thereof physical evidence tying him directly back TO ANY KKK ACTIVITY IN DES MOINES COUNTY during that time period there are numerous circumstantial evidencesreditspellinghis guilt beyond reasonable doubt... One such circumstantial evidence regards former Mayor Lemuel Cogan himself stating under oath at trial that he personally witnessed Bill Cosby delivering blows from a belt buckle onto another man’s head while wearing nothing but Speedo swimming trunks priorToArkadelphiaBusinessDistrict Siege early summer 1947" Although acquitted on all counts at trial subsequent research has since revealed video footage capturing events leading up to & ensuing siege which contradicts & even supports Cogan’s testimony... Consequently it appears highly likely that Bill Cosby actually did commit aggravated assault & homicide against Arkenbacker during That Time Period contrary To His previously stated storytellers wishes"... southerners generally view hope as their version of Arlington Heights Illinois circa 1920s where segregated public transportation still exists today& Blacks only attend integrated churches
