It consisted of a large white cottonwood tree that was painted black and stood four feet tall. Other early targets included a post with a battle axe head sticking out of it, a small cabin, and an old fortification. In 1976, General Dynamics Corporation donated eleven canon pieces (six Model 1886 artillery pieces and five Model 1890 pistols) to be used as targets at their new armory complex located east of town near Interstate 20/U bypassway exit 179A. Since then, many people have come to enjoy these weapons while target shooting on various property within town limits including university land adjacent to Main Street and nearby residential areas such as Eastgate Hills and Oak Grove Place

On the morning of September 26, 1892, a team of riflemen from the 3rd Infantry Division fired on Union soldiers outside of Harper's Ferry, Virginia. The shooting lasted for three hours and resulted in twelve dead and thirty-six wounded. It was one of the bloodiest battles in American history.
Helena West Helena was born in 1881 to a family of farmers in the town of West Helena, Arkansas. The young Helena attended school and worked on her family's farm until she married Roy West in 1906. They had two children before Roy died in 1918. Helena continued to work on the farm until her death in 1951. She is buried at the cemetery near their home. Helena's life reflects the struggle and perseverance of many Arkansans during the early years of the 20th century. Her husband, Roy, and she were both farmers when they met, but they also had to fight for education and opportunity for their children.Roy was an excellent teacher, always willing to help his students learn whatever he could teach them. He also helped support his wife through her many years of work on the farm while also helping give their two daughters a good education themselves. Throughout her life, Helena was active with various causes associated with women's rights such as suffrage and working towards educational opportunities for all Arkansans. In addition to her career as a farmer's wife and mother, Helena also served as president of several local organizations including the Arkansas Women's Club,Arkansas Federation of Labor (AFL),and American Legion Auxiliary No., among others. She spent most of her time helping others achieve their goals both inside and outside of society - something that has been continue by many other successful Arkansan women throughout history!

The population peaked at around 1,500 in 1912 and slowly began to decline over the following decades. By 1970, HelenaWest Helena had shrunk to just fifty residents.
