Harrison is a city in Little Rock County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Little Rock County. Harrison was founded on November 24, 1881 by Major C. W. Hammond and his men as an unincorporated community within the present-day city of Little Rock. The first post office in Harrison opened on December 1, 1881. The City of Harrison was incorporated into the City of Little Rock on February 20, 1907 following a vote by voters in that city to secede from its own tiny town government and become an independent municipality with its own mayor and council. The incorporation of Harrison made it one of only two cities in Arkansas to be chartered as such; the other being Jonesboro (a suburb ofLittle Rock).
