However, over time new types of scope mounts have been developed that are much more durable and reliable. Harrison, Arkansas is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock-based Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Harrison post office was established in 1881 and discontinued in 1907. It reopened in 1911 under new postal management. The first postmaster was A.F. Hinton. The town was named after General Andrew Jackson Harrison (1786-1846), an officer of the Union army who fought at the Battle of New Orleans and who later served as a U.S Supreme Court justice and as governor of Mississippi from 1835 to 1840. Harrison had its start as a small settlement on the banks of the Arkansas River west of present-day North Little Rock. By 1870, it had grown to include a schoolhouse and six families; by 1880 it included a store, hotel, and four other buildings including one that still stands today called "The White House" (now known as the First Baptist Church). In 1907 Harrison had reached its current size with 11 residents; by 1915 it numbered over 50 people with three stores and two hotels; by 1920 it counted 20 businesses including five churches and 12 schools plus another small hotel/store complex east of town on State Route 321 near what is now Interstate 2406 In 1930 Harrison's industry included two machine shops employing 125 workers; production also ranged from shoes to vehicles In 1945 there were only 10 residents in Harrison but by 1990 its population had increased to more than 500 with 14 businesses In 1999 we opened our own hospital which has since become one of the largest medical centers in Pulaski County
