Harrison was named for Major General George Washington Harrison and his family who settled there in 1822. It was incorporated as a town on May 15, 1907. The first post office at Harrison (then known as Prentiss) was established on December 5, 1872. The first store there was built by J.D. Barnes and Wm. Higginson and operated until it closed in 1902; the store has been demolished since then. A large cotton gin located near the intersection of US 70 and FM 612 served as one of the early economic engines of the community from its inception until it closed in 1929-1930 due to lack of customers or investment by those operating it. In 1915 an agricultural fair was held at which local farmers exhibited their crops before selling them to buyers in nearby cities such as Little Rock or North Little Rock for transportation back home to be processed into food products like flour or butter according to then-existing methods of distribution then available within Arkansas only through railroads connecting different states along Interstate 40 (now I-40 corridor). The fairgrounds remain extant today with various events being hosted at them each year including car shows, culinary demos, arts & crafts exhibits etc., making this one of most popular tourist destinations in Pulaski County simply because it remains unchanged since that era!
