Harrison, Arkansas is a town in Johnson County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,842 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Johnson County and the only incorporated municipality in the county. The town was established in 1871 as a result of the consolidation of two other towns: Harrison and Bellefontaine. As one of its original residents John Wesley Hardin contributed $10 to make the town name official. The first store in Harrison was built by J.W. Hardin on Main Street in 1871. A post office was established there in 1872, and mail delivered to Harrison until 1907 when it was moved to nearby Bentonville. In 1916, Harrison had its own school system which remained until 1925 when it merged with Bentonville's system. The first oil well in Arkansas was drilled near Harrison by Texas Oil Company on October 3rd, 1911; this well became known as "the wells that hollered" because so much gas came from it during production operations that streetlights routinely went out due to lack of light! The first television station in Arkansas (KFMB-TV) began transmitting from an antenna located just outside of Harrison on November 6th, 1951; KFMB would remain its primary outlet for many years afterwards! In 1984, local businessman Don Byers struck what became known as "the golden age" of small towns when he developed an enclosed shopping center called Walmart northwest of town off Hwy 90/Arkansas State Line Road (now US 83). This development led to increased business away from downtown Harrison and helped spur economic development within the community over time- culminating with a full merger between Bentonville's city government and township government forming present-day Johnson County on January 1st 1999! A variety of different businesses have been located within or adjacent to Walmart since its inception including convenience stores (C&B), sporting goods retailers such as Bass Pro Shops and Dick's Sporting Goods chains as well as restaurants such as Pizza Hut and Carl's Jr./Judo Grill - all now long gone but their memories still live on among current residents!

Harrison is a small town in Little Rock County, Arkansas, located on the Arkansas River. The population was 7,812 at the 2010 census. Harrison was named for Major General George A. Harrison (1838-1926), an American Civil War veteran and first Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas. The town sprang up around a post office established in 1884, and it became incorporated as a city in 1907. Its name derived from nearby Mount Harrison, which overlooks the town. The hamlet of Clearwater had been settled by Mormons in the early 1800s but abandoned after they were forced out of Utah by Brigham Young. In 1885, local resident James P. Kane built a sawmill on the Arkansas River near present-day Harrison to provide employment for his family and their slaves. A post office was established at Harrison in 1884, and residents developed a strong regional trade with neighboring towns such as Pine Bluff and Jonesboro due to its location on the river's floodplain. By 1907, however, most residents had left for various reasons—the Panic of 1907 caused widespread destruction across America; African Americans were discriminated against during World War I until 1920 when they were granted citizenship; economic hardship followed World War II; and black Americans regained full civil rights following the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964). In 1924, racially segregated schools were installed in Harrison; blacks were refused admission into white schools until 1960[when public education was integrated]. The economy changed rapidly during Reconstruction following the American Civil War; business ventures prospered thanks to new transportation routes opened up by Union troops before Les Cessna Aircraft began production at Indian Bend Airport north of town in 1945[the first commercial airport east of Texas]. Harrison was named for Major General David H. Harrison, who served as Governor of Arkansas from 1896 to 1902 and Judge of the Circuit Court of Pulaski County from 1892 to 1904. The first settlers in Harrison were two families who arrived in 1800 from England. A post office was established here in 1827, and remained so until 1875 when it was moved to Little Rock. In 1876 the community was renamed for General David H. Harrison because he had becomeGovernor of Arkansas that year and had helped Presley gain control over the state government after being freed from slavery in Missouri. In 1907-08 a new school building was built on what is now called Main Street which became home to Harrison High School until it closed in 1996-97 due to budget cuts by then Mayor Harry Byrd; however, the school building still stands as a museum today with its original art Nouveau features still intact. In 1924 a system of water main lines were constructed through town which made irrigation possible and allowed farmers to grow large crops without having to go outside for water; this led to increased business opportunities for local merchants including those that founded Main Street restaurant which has been open continuously since 1925
