Harrison, Arkansas is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock-AR Metro Statistical Area. According to the 2010 census, Harrison has a total area of , of which is land and (1.2%) is water. The history of Harrison begins with settlers in 1875. A post office called Harrison was established in 1879, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1902, the railroad reached Harrison and named it after Major General Winfield Scott Hancock (1815-1894), one of its directors and a major general during the American Civil War who served as military governor for Arkansas Territory before being elected as Ulysses S. Grant's Vice President on November 8th, 1876). In 1905, Henry Hutton developed a cotton plantation to produce sorghum for export from his farm near Weldonville; he became owner of most of what would become Harrison when he acquired it from his father-in-law Emory Pigeon in 1906. The first commercial development occurred around this time when Harry Wernham built an elevator servicing the cotton gin located on Old Railroad Road east of town; he began producing electricity for local residents in 1912 using power lines he had dug across Catfish Creek just north of town limits at what is now Red Roof Inn & Suites restaurant complex on I-40/Upper Gascogne Drive NW.). In 1916, four school districts were consolidated into one: Enterprise School District #1; Harding School District #2; Jackson School District #3; Robey School District #4 formed out of portions of Enterprise and Harding districts respectively following rulings by United States Supreme Court Justice William Holmes Harlan that unified all public schools within Arkansas after statehood on January 6th that year under provisions contained within the Kansas–Nebraska Act (Pt VII). As part as products exported from Harrison – such as sorghum – numerous small businesses were founded here over ensuing years including Blue Ribbon BBQ Restaurant (& drive thru) opened by Bill "Bud" Browning in 1978 which continues to serve up quality smoked pork since then & Mike's Ford Service Department opened its doors soon afterwards serving motorists along US 40 between Big Sandy Lake Rd./Arkansas Highway 15 & AR 36 / AR 9 just outside city limits back then (& still does today) Numerous other small businesses have arisen throughout the years periphery to these larger operations but they continue to operate without interruption thanks largely to support from their respective community members who typically attend their monthly meetings or weekly pickups if not already doing so); see list below... This close knit community has seen some big changes over time too! For instance - since 2000 when Interstate 40 passed through town creating access points all sorts new businesses have sprung up like Jiffy Lube convenience store next door (now Outfitters gas station), Griggs Hardware Store open 5 years ago (now Subway), Walmart Supercenter opening 3 miles away down CR 301 off I-40 about 4 years ago (& now closed), etc etc... Some more recent notable incorporation(s) include Crossroad Health Systems Inc., First Baptist Church incorporated into village hall building plans & finally Second Chance Lutheran Church situated right next door to Walmart Supercenter - both organizations having been authorized by Village Council minutes dated June 7th 2017
