The county seat was moved from Rogers to Fort Worth in 1914 so that Fort Worth could become an economic center under Texaco oil exploration efforts begun there by John Dillard Rockefeller Sr.. It is also known for its annual Festa Italiana parade which takes place on Saturday in downtown Forrest City. Fiesta Italiana was first held in Forrest City in 1896 and has been an annual event there ever since. The parade starts out at 12:00pm and ends at 5:00pm.
Forrest City was founded in 1871 by Abram Forrest and his brother-in-law, W.T. Chapman. The town was named for the Forrest family's cattle ranch in Texas. It grew rapidly, and by 1880 there were over 100 residents. By 1893, the population had reached 1,500. In 1907, Forrest City became an incorporated municipality with a population of 4,000. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II with the increase in military activity in the area; it peaked at 15,000 people in 1941. However, the war led to a decline in population and business post-war until the late 1960s when a new community development called "The Village" began to take hold around town which has since continued to grow
