Forrest City is home to the Arkansas Outdoor Advertising Association’s (AOA) Forrest City Antique Binocular Collection. The collection of binoculars and telescopes was donated by local resident W.M. Cramer in 1948. The AOA began exhibiting the collection at its annual meeting in 1951, and it has been on display at the association’s office since then. The Forrest City Antique Binocular Collection is one of the largest and most comprehensive antiquebinocular collections in the United States. It features over 1,000 items from around the world, including a number of rare classic binoculars and telescopes. Many of these objects were donated by members of the community or purchased through sales events organized by the AOA. The Forrest City Antique Binocular Collection is open to visitors every day from 9 a.m.–5 p.m., except Mondays when it is closed due to weather conditions. Admission is free for all individuals who are wearing glasses or carrying any object that weighs more than 3 pounds without a bag or container; children under 12 years old are free when accompanied by an adult age 18 or older. Orders for purchase must be placed online before visiting the museum, and there are no telephone orders accepted during regular business hours (except Monday). The AOA’s Forrest City Antique Binocular Collection has been included on several federal lists of endangered materials, including those compiled by Congress in 1976 as part of their plans to protect American cultural heritage.. Forrest City, Arkansas is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. Forrest City is located on the eastern edge of the Ozark Mountains and is bordered by Clarksville to the east and Little Rock to the south. The first post office in Forrest City was established on October 3, 1873, and served for four years. The present post office building was built in 1907. Forrest City was named after General James Wofford Forrest, an American general who fought in the Mexican-American War and also fought in many other battles during Reconstruction. The first store in Forrest City opened its doors on December 12, 1881. The original store had a two-story structure with a blacksmith shop on one floor and a grocery store on another floor. The building still stands today and serves as part of the local history museum. In 1896, Forrest City began receiving mail from Cairo, Illinois through carrier pigeons which gave new life to this small town because it could now ship goods directly to customers without having to go through Memphis or Arkansas city limits. In 1916, Forrest City became home to its own telephone system when Central Telephone Company installed lines into the community from Clarksville.. In 1925/1926 Forest Home Nursery became one of America's largest home improvement stores with over 40000 square feet of retail space inside and out across 7 states including Arkansas & Missouri! This business bequeathed much of what we know about home improvement today - such as our popular "Pine Needles" catalog - within our walls! Forrest Home continued making headlines well into 2018 when they announced plans (details pending) for yet another expansion that would add an additional 8000+ sq ft onto their current premises!!!
