Fayetteville is a city in Arkansas, United States. The population was 20,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fayette County. By 1860 only about 10%of Arkansan adults could read or write leaving little room for blacks outside white society even though significantly more black people lived neareducated centers like Memphis or Nashville ().
