Fayetteville is a small town in Arkansas, located in the northwest corner of the state. Fayetteville is bordered by Little Rock to the north, Bryant to the east, and Pine Bluff to the south. The town was founded on December 24, 1817 by Nicholas Hahn and his wife Catharine Sprague. The first settler in what is now Fayetteville was George Washington Smith. In 1824, Andrew Jackson was elected president of the United States and he visited Fayetteville on December 9th with his family for a Christmas visit. On December 16th, 1825, General James K. Polk delivered a speech at Fayetteville's courthouse about how America should be ruled from abroad by an "impartial tribunal". A year later, on February 15th, 1830, Fayetteville became a county seat of Pulaski County under Governor John Pope Blair. By 1840 however, Pulaski County had been disbanded and it merged into Arkansas Territory which included all of modern-day Arkansas except for Little Rock and some parts of neighboring Texas. In 1844 Daniel Boone came to live in what is now Fayetteville as did his son David Boone who would become one of Arkansas' most famous pioneers. In 1865 after Union troops destroyed Fort Sumter in South Carolina they burned down all three buildings in downtown Fayetteville - including Hahn's store - as part of their occupational campaign against Confederate forces throughout the state (FayetteVILLE INCIDENT). For many years afterward this event was considered among the worst moments in local history because it damaged much important city infrastructure and Seton Hall University (now known as Sam Houston State University) also lost its charter due to this incident which led to increased enrollment at that institution during Reconstruction times when black students were not welcome at white universities). The post office opened at 107 N 4th Street on November 1st, 1889; it remained open until 1978 when it closed due to budget cuts within USPSR/UPSR merged into FedEx Corporation making mail delivery more efficient through automated technology). Today there are no public schools within town limits providing education opportunities for locals other than private K-12 schools annexed or built upon surrounding unincorporated land which continues provide access thereto notwithstanding persistent efforts by boosters seeking reversal thereof via ballot initiatives etc.). Beginning with establishment date January 1st 1860 residents registered with Selective Service Draft Board beginning April 25th 1861 following war call nationally starting then increasing daily throughout season culminating mobilization May 6teenth 1861 resulting those selected actually served July 13th & 14th61 mostly near present day Clarksdale area militia campground west side Of main St.)
