It was founded in 1871 and named for the Spanish word "el Dorado" which means "The Golden Land." The town has two schools: one high school and one middle school. There are also three businesses: a grocery store, a post office, and a dry goods store. There are also two churches: First Baptist and Methodist. The only hospital in the area is El Dorado Regional Medical Center which provides medical services to the town as well as neighboring communities. The community's history can be traced back to 1871 when some seekers of gold discovered an abandoned general store in the nearby hills. A group of residents from nearby towns soon began building homes around this new resource stores. By 1907, there were already over 100 residents living in El Dorado. In 1916, the first fire burned through part of town destroying most of what had been built since then; however, it quickly rebuilt with help from local farmers who donated money and resources to rebuild anew. In 1951-1952, El Dorado became home to the world's second largest quartzite mine operated by United States Gold Corporation (USGC). The mine closed down afterproducing less than 1% of its original output due to environmental problems including USGC's failure to take into account that Quartzite is not easily mined using standard techniques such as blasting or skimming because it contains so many tiny size particles that these methods leave large blocks end up on site.) Today remnants of USGC can still be seen onsite at several locations across downtown where permanent walls have been erected around remnant pits left by extracting Quartzite from beneath the earth’s surface) This brief history does not do justice to all that has been done here over time - both good and bad - but it provides an overview of what makes El Dorados unique within Pulaski County; while other similar sized villages have popped up throughout Pulaski Counties since then (such as White Hall), none have managed to become truly self-sufficient until they did so with support from outside forces like development companies or philanthropists looking for something more than just a place to live/work/shop/ play etc.).
