This effort led to what has been called America's first agricultural county—the production and sale of food products attracted many settlers who arrived seeking fortune and new land opportunities instead of gold or silver prospects. The economy grew rapidly thanks to irrigation systems and cotton plantations; but during World War I dust storms destroyed crop yields, depressing prices for food items which caused many families to leave for good over that decade or so before returning home empty-handed in search again of riches beyond those found at home base—in short:During this period Kansas City was becoming its major center due largely to petroleum production from North Dakota’s Bakken Formation westward along Interstate 30 which linked Wichita with Oklahoma City via pipeline

El Dorado, Arkansas is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The population was 586 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Little Rock-North Little Rock-Rogersville Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now El Dorado were French traders and missionaries in 1685. They named the area for the Golden Fleece, which they saw in Mexico City on their way southward. From here they proceeded westward overland until they reached present day Arkansas on July 4, 1685. In 1821 slavery was abolished in Arkansas by General John C. Smith as part of his Proclamation to Free All Slaves In The United States Of America. This event made El Dorado one of the most free states in America. Prior to this time it had been a slave state with its own government and laws that discriminated against freedmen and black Americans. The town began as a cabin settlement around 1825, when Nicholas Pryor built an adobe fortification near what is now US Highway 64 and US Highway 120 (now Elm Street). Pryor called his post "Eldorado." He decided to remain there after learning that white settlers were moving into the area from Missouri and Texas, seeking new land where slavery could be continued without interference from abolitionist groups back home in England or North America. By 1830 he had developed a marketable product: goods grown on his plantation such as cottonseed oil and beeswax; also luxury items such as ivory tusks and slaves
El Dorado, Arkansas was founded in 1836 by the Bentalls. The Bentalls were a white family that came to the area in 1837, and started an agricultural settlement. In 1840, they built a steamboat on the White River and sailed it up the river to what is now Arkadelphia. They then set up a store and began trading with surrounding communities. In 1845, they married Anna Maria Moore, who had been born in nearby Tennessee. The Bentalls continued to operate their business until 1886 when they sold it to Nathan Bedford Forrest Jr.
