El Dorado, Arkansas is a small community located in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. The community is named after the gold Rush town of Eldorado in California. El Dorado was platted in 1872 and became a incorporated town in 1902. It is currently an unincorporated community with a mailing address of PO Box 9001, El Dorado, AR 72002-9001. The first settlers to arrive in what is now El Dorado were Englishmen who traveled through the area on their way to found Wichita Falls, Texas. In 1872 they founded the towns of Eldorado and Fort Smith while traveling through central Arkansas on their way to Kansas City and Denver. The discovery of gold near Eldorado led to increased traffic along the road from Dodge City to Eldorados Creek which provided water for mills and farming activity. By 1907 there were 5 businesses in town including grocery stores, restaurants, barsbershops and a post office where residents could send mail for delivery by stage or wagon train. In 1912 construction began on what would become one of the most impressive irrigation systems ever built when work began on the White River Canal system that would provide irrigation for much of central Arkansas as well as providing transportation link between Dodge City and nearby counties. The canal system allowed for more than 100 years of production without breaking down due to weather or pests problems common during that time period. Today remnants of oldadobe buildings can be seen scattered around town while new development surrounds older properties giving it a feeling of continuity not often found within smaller communities today. While many people have left El Dorado over various reasons such as economic decline or increasing competition from other rural towns across Pulaski County; some residents remain committed to their community despite difficult times including recent efforts by local officials to make El Dorados civic improvements such as better infrastructure and more affordable housing options available

In 1821, French prospectors discovered gold there and built a stockade around the mine to prevent Anglo-American miners from entering. The Spanish also claimed part of what is now Arkansas for their New Spain colony in 1719; they did not find gold but acquired some land at El Dorado for their new colony. British travelers reached El Dorado in 1799; they named it after General James Bowie's home state of Kentucky (the name "El Dorado" had been given by one of these visitors). In 1835, gold was discovered at nearby Arkadelphia (now Little Rock), making Arkadelphia the largest town in Arkansas and giving rise to speculation that El Doradoboard would soon become as rich as California or Nevada. However, production ceased abruptly because of low grades of ore and competition from other mines on the frontier. In 1861, whenArkansas became a Confederate States territory during the American Civil War, most people went into hiding rather than leave their homes; few were found until 1865 when Union forces arrived to liberate them from Confederate control. By then, only about 150 people remained in Arkadelphia with no hope of returning home under Confederate occupation; most left before Union troops burned down all the buildings there on July 12th 1865.]] El Dorado never regained its former prosperity; quarrying stopped completely by 1925 and most abandoned townsspeople moved away shortly thereafter due to lack of jobs opportunities or racism towards Native Americans who continued extracting resources from what is now known as Arkansas].]

El Dorado was a goldmining town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States founded by James Bowie in 1876. It became a major railroad center and the site of many mining operations. The population of El Dorado peaked at around 10,000 in 1910 and declined rapidly to less than 1,000 by 1920.
