El Dorado is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,331 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock, AR-LED Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "El Dorado" comes from the Spanish word "el Dorado" meaning "the golden country." The gold rush that started in 1849 led to settlement and growth in what is now El Dorado Parish. The first post office was established here on October 3, 1850. By 1870, there were over 100 residents and two stores. In 1881, a water system was built by Mrs. Cushing and it became known as “The Fountain of Youth” because of its natural resources - abundant groundwater and springs that provided drinking water for many people and horses used for traction during the early years of development. In 1907, controversy arose over plans to build a dam across Buffalo Creek which would have destroyed much of the community's cultural history including traditional gardens, dance halls and tombs dating back to pre- European times. A boycott led by local citizens resulted in the instead construction of a park near present day downtown El Dorado with native trees growling overhead as if protesting against potential destruction; this event helped bring about change for the better in later years when developers began to take into account previous community protests when making their plans (although some sites still remain off limits). On November 15th 1909 an armed posse apprehended 22 stagecoach robbers who had been terrorizing small towns along Interstate 40 east of Little Rock since late August that year! This event marked one of America's earliest law enforcement successes against outlaws such as Jesse James and John Dillinger! After more than two decades free from crime thanks to good policing by local officials working together with federal agents headquartered in nearby Fort Smith,, eastern Pulaski County gradually lost its significance until World War II changed everything again when El Dorado became home to some of Arkansas' most well-known military installations -Fort Chaffee Army Air Field (now Fort Wingate), Northwest Arkansas Defense Command Headquarters (now Hill Air Force Base) and Camp Robinson – all located within easy reach by car or truck!. After World War II ended these installations were decommissioned but not replaced until 1994 when they were combined under one roof called Camp Douglas – also located within easy reach! As business grew throughout Southwestern Arkansas during both Prohibition Era (1920-1933) & newly minted New Deal era 1940-1945 (1940-1948), so too did prices for goods available locally start spiraling out OF control & often being outbid nationally (& even internationally!), particularly given the fact that wages only barely qualified Arkansansfolk FOR basic needs like shelter & food (& work opportunities remained extremely limited). Although generally considered amongst locals as being “the pits” due largely TO lack thereof civic participation (& political power) during these years despite massive investment$$ made locally thru government gambling schemes set up especially HERE!, overnight development programs spearheaded by then Pulaski County Mayor named Harry Bowen finally began seeing success beginning earnestly around 1960/1965 when he organized 8 blocks away from where I currently reside one largest collection ever assembled anywhere inside Pulaski County public housing project called Hope Ranch! Despite ongoing opposition internally among some existing homeowners (& those elected officials beholden thereto), progress has nonetheless been made over ensuing decades culminating today with nearly 50% owner occupancy rates while still allowing access courtesy door entry via walkway outside each unit!] It should be noted here that although long past its heyday influenced largely BY young adults coming online today primarily through social media etc., many aspects still remain relatively unchanged since then leading admittedly somewhat ironically enough virtually everyone living herein having grown up knowing nothing about anything aside from maybe school supplies...!?

The population of El Dorado County rapidly grew as prospectors discovered large amounts of gold and silver lining the riverbanks. In 1845 a post office was established at Cherokee Point and soon after mineral rights were sold to various companies. By 1850, over 1,000 people lived in El Dorado County and it had surpassed Jackson County as the most populous county in Arkansas. By 1865, when cotton began becoming an important factor in local economic development, El Dorado County had acquired a significant amount of wealth from its production of this valuable commodity.
