A local variety show called "El Dorado" aired on radio from 1951-1957; it featured local talent and comedy sketches with music by DJ Joe Fresh & His Band (the show's guitarist). The town has several churches: First Baptist Church (founded 1903), Second Baptist Church (established 1902), Gothic Revival style Christ Episcopal Cathedral (dedicated 1915), Hispanic Methodist church (founded 1912), Presbyterian church (formerly Stedman Chapel) - all with brick or metal roofs - and an elementary school which serves grades K-5th along with Holy Cross Catholic School across the street from First Baptist Church serving grades 6th-9th; all these churches are within walking distance of each other. There are also several convenience stores, restaurants, bars/pubs, HasbroToyShop, strip malls servicing nearby cities such as Little Rock and Fayetteville/, along with two golf courses located within easy driving distance: Willow Springs Golf Course located about 3 miles east of town on I-575 southbound Exit 191A/B just outside of Little Rock while Taylor Mill Golf Course located about 5 miles west of town off I-575 northbound Exit 191A/B approximately 10 minutes east from downtown El Dorado

El Dorado is a small town in El Dorado County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Smith metropolitan area. The name "El Dorado" means "the golden country." The first Europeans to visit what is now El Dorado County were Frenchmen and Spanish traders in the early 17th century. They sighted an immense gold mine near present-day Helena on the Arkansas River and began prospecting for it in earnest in 1699. By 1725, they had discovered and claimed much of central and eastern Arkansas as well as much of western Oklahoma Territory. In 1772, Spain ceded all this land to France as part of the Treaty of Paris following their victory over England at Saratoga Field; however, France never relinquished its claim to El Dorado County or any other portion of Northwest Arkansas until 1821 when Mexico relinquished its claims too. This period is known as "The Golden Age" because so much gold was discovered including by Colonel James Fenton who opened up Fenton's Mining District which included what is now El Dorado County in 1827 with plans to establish a mining colony there. Unfortunately for Fenton, only a fewgins rich earth resulted from his efforts but he did lay the groundwork for future mineral discoveries across most of northwest Arkansas including those at Sulphur Springs where he found oil shale in 1859. Today more than 50 years later still very valuable minerals are being discovered including lead ore at Blue Ridge Lead Mines just outside town limits while coal and uranium are also being mined nearby such as Cooks Coal Mine which opened up in 1978 adjacent to White Sands Missile Range making it one of the largest coal mines west of Kansas City!
