When he arrived at what is now known as downtown Conway he found only abandoned buildings and fences blocking his path to success story he had imagined! A few years later another man named Waddell made similar discoveries which led him to believe that there could be more potential for development east of town where he built his home and business eventually becoming one of the most significant figures in early Conradian life! Two other men- Isaac Morse and James Purdy- followed suit until all three men were vested with majority ownership in their towns making them managers/owners instead of just residents! These days you can still see some evidence that these pioneers lived here including Pioneer Memorial Day weekend events dedicated to honoring these early settlers Conway quickly became known as a thriving center for commerce due its location within easy reach both by travelers coming down Interstate 40 (then called US 71) which connected Manchester and Little Rock along with nearby western Arkansas communities; as well as locals coming into town looking for work or opportunity during those hard times following Reconstruction following the Civil War In 1892 Lyons Waddell donated land northwest of downtown Conover so that schools could be built thereon which helped make this community one Of The First Schools In Arkansas It wasn't long before businesses started popping up all over town due to its strategic location midway between Little Rock & Manchester; thanks largely too its advantageous ground water availability . By 1916 when World War I erupted local merchants realized they needed storage tanks available closer than they were getting at home so they bought up tankers full throughout Europe selling gasoline back across the Atlantic Ocean This type marketeering allowed Prescott Gas & Supply Company (later Parsons) located on Main Street Northwest corner Third Street SW corner First Avenue NW corner main artery SE corner street name changed becomeArkansas Fuel Co., Incorporated 1915 . After WWI store fronts moved around constantly because resources became scarce many small businesses closed but Ark Fuel continued doing business mainly through mail order while also manufacturing products primarily munitions It wasn't until 1951 when Ark Fuel merged wit Enterprise gas company making it one big corporation As we move further into our modern day society things have definitely changed including how technology has impacted our lives especially when it comes to communication but even today there are certain aspects about life here that remain unchanged like Pioneer Days which honors those who laid down foundations for us all
