Conway was founded in 1892 by J.C. Conway and his family as a station on the Arkansas Central Railroad. The town grew rapidly after it became an incorporated municipality in 1904. In 1964, Conway became one of only two towns in Pulaski County to be bypassed by Interstate 40 when it was built north of the county line into Oklahoma Territory. In 1984, Conway established itself as an educational and business center for eastern Arkansas with its opening of the first high school and Comprehensive Vocational School in that state since Reconstruction Era education had been available only to farmers and their children up until that point. Today, Conway is home to bothArkansas State University (ASU) and several private schools including Northwest Arkansas Regional High School & Community College which are adjacent to each other on Umatilla Road just east of Highway 6 near Arkadelphia; Conways Elementary School; ARKHighSchools; West Pulaski Intermediate School; Arkadelphia Middle School; Huckabee-Butler Junior/Senior High Schools (grades 9-12); Conway Christian Academy (K-8th grade);and White Sands Trails HS (9-12th grade). In addition, there are several businesses providing services such as truck stops, gas stations and restaurants within walking distance of most homes including KFC., Subway sandwich shops, Pizza Hut, Dairy Queen - all located along Umatilla Road between Highway 6 and Arkadelphia Airport Boulevard across from ARKHighSchools which also provides recreation opportunities for students during school hours including basketball courts outside during summer months as well as a pool area heated during winter months inside ASUs campus buildings

Conway, Arkansas is a small town located in the central Arkansas Valley. The population was 1,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock-based West Little Rock–Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlement in what is now Conway was made on December 10, 1881 by settlers from Illinois and Kansas who had been driven out of their land by a sandstorm that associated with thelooming Sand Hills about 20 miles to the south. They called their new town "Conway Junction" because it was where two trails crossed. The name stuck and today's Conway is considered to be its birthplace. In 1911, when Arkansas became a state, Conway came under the jurisdiction of Johnson County and until that time had been an unincorporated community within Turner County. On January 3, 1911, however, it became part of Conyers Township when that township was organized from parts of Johnson and Turner Counties. At that time there were only six residents in Conway; however by 1920 there were over 100 people living in the town centrally situated on Main Street between its two churches which had been built around this time: First Presbyterian (now Old Main), Christ Church (1892), United Methodist (1912), Baptist (1896), American Legion Hall (1920) and Post Office Department Store (1910). One reason for much growth during these years was World War I which saw increased traffic through Conway as soldiers arrived for service throughout America including training at Camp Butler outside of town while also fighting in Europe aboard various warships off France and Belgium before returning home late in 1918. Another factor may have been general prosperity following World War I as jobs opened up thanks to advances in technology such as automobiles which allowed for a more rapid flow of people into towns like Conway after leaving farms or villages back east during those times of prohibition only available to those living near rural areas outside major cities like New York City or Chicago without fear thereof being seized by federal authorities if caught with liquor products inland along with other contraband items like cars or radios prohibited by local law enforcement officials due to forfeiture laws then still extant at that point such as they are currently known today under federal law governing interstate commerce In 1925, First Presbyterian built a new church west on Main Street adjacent to present day United Methodist which served both congregations until 1978 when United Methodist merged with Christ Church USA making Conway once again an all-congregational community although attendance at services remains highest among all Little Rock–Conway Metropolitan Statistical Areas with over 94% reported attendances according to 2017 estimates . maintaining this high attendance level despite competition from other religious organizations having formed within nearby Hope Springs since early 2000s has resulted in some nicknames given unto this once sleepy corner of central Arkansas such as "The Holy Land" due primarily to Christiansengoheen annexation territory taken up by neighbouring Hope Springs rivaling size wise just northward extending all the way downriver towards Stroudsburg even taking up portions of South Johnny Creek bottomlands fringing both creek banks forming what used to be known locally as "Town Bottom". This unique situation has led some locals - mostly older citizens - refer to themselves collectively as "The Chiefs" since they are considered leaders or top dogs amongst their peers inside and outside OFA limits no matter what denomination they affiliate themselves WITH!
