Conway and his wife, Lillie H. Conway. The first post office was opened in 1911. In 1915, the name of the community was changed to Conway after John A. Conway's nephew, Horace W. Conway Jr., who had a ranch there. In 1948, the population of Conway was 1,711 and it became an incorporated municipality in 1959. On July 16, 1963, a tornado touched down in town and destroyed most of the homes and businesses within a radius of about .

Conway is a town in Lonoke County, Arkansas, United States. It was founded in 1881 by entrepreneur and settler John P. Conway. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,564. The motto of the town is "Equality is not a word you hear often here." Conway is located at (35.317610,-95.689591). According to the 2010 census, it has a total area of , of which is land and (2%) is water. The first people to live in what would become Conway arrived in 1881 from Illinois via wagon train. They were attracted to the rich soil and good location near Ouachita River for timber and cattle farming. The first post office was established in Conway on December 2, 1881. The town grew rapidly due to its strategic location - it sat on high ground just outside of Ouachita Parish on both sides of the river making it easy for trade with other parts of Arkansas and Missouri. In 1902, local businessman A C Hargrave donated land for a high school which would later be renamed after him - Hargrave High School remains today as one of Conway's most prominent landmarks! In 1915, during World War I, Conway became an American military training center thanks to nearby Fort Riley Army Base which housed thousands of troops from all over the US! After war ended, many soldiers/ civilians returned home but some remained behind including John P Conways family who had purchased land east of town along White Oak Drive back in 1881! This led to development around this part of town - now known as Old Town Conway! growth continued until the early 1960s when cotton production stopped and all vestiges of peach orchards went away leaving only small swaths remaining off Center Street today!
