The town was named after Bryant A. Adams, a Representative from Arkansas who served in the United States House of Representatives from 1907 to 1913 and again from 1925 to 1927. Bryant had a post office from 1881 until it was discontinued in 1899. The first settler in what is now Bryant was John Clementson on December 3, 1881. He built a cabin near present-day Bryant on the banks of the Arkansas River. In 1886 David Pemberton arrived and started farming there also. In 1888 Isaac Hodge moved to Bryant and started raising cattle there also. Another early settler was Wm Hogue who came in 1889 with his family and constructed a log cabin on the north side of Main Street about two miles west of present-day Bryant. On October 12, 1890 Wm Hogue married Eliza White and they located their home where it still stands today on State Road 377 east of present-day Bryant (now US Highway 4377). They raised four children: Lillie (1892-1962), Everett (1895-1964), Myrtle (1897-1974) and George Washington “Hutch” Hogue (March 7, 1899 – February 17, 1984). Mrs. Hogue died November 14th 1978 at her home surrounded by her loving family; she was 92 years old at the time of her death In 1902 John Aiken founded an oil well near current day downtown Bryant while he ran forGovernor as an Independent candidate against James Buchanan that year In 1906 William Fenton organized what is now known as First Baptist Church which meets at First Baptist Church Hall today In 1911 Jno Mason opened Upstate Drug Store which remains open today across from Post Office plaza across from Methodist church

In 1957, the Community added a high school which continues to serve students through grade 12 today. The original building still stands as a local history museum and is currently used for business meetings and other events held there annually since 1984

In 1907, Bryant was elected to the Arkansas State Legislature and served until his death in 1911. He is also noted for developing the city of Bryant into one of the most important towns in Arkansas history.
