Blytheville is located on the eastern edge of the Ozark Mountains and its elevation ranges from 350 feet (111 m) to 459 feet (158 m). The first Europeans to visit what is now Blytheville were French explorers who explored the area in 1696. In 1821, General Andrew Jackson founded a trading post here called Fort Smith on land he had taken from the Cherokee Nation. The post served as a supply depot for Jackson's army during his campaign against Native Americans. In 1824, General James K. Polk built Fort Henry here after winning an engagement against Native American forces at Horseshoe Bend on July 12, 1824. The fort served as a military barracks for Polk's forces during his presidency and later became a commercial center forArkansas. In 1861, Confederate soldiers burned down Union Brigadier General William Troup's house northeast of town while he was away on duty at Fort Donelson in Tennessee; this event is considered to be the beginning of Blytheville's conflict with Confederate residents over control of local facilities and access to food supplies. After Mobile Bay fell to Union troops on December 15, 1861, Confederate general Robert Easley named Blytheville "Avery" after his flagship USS Avery (1815), which had been sunk by CSS Alabama off Pensacola Beach four years earlier. During World War II several hundred men from nearby Arkadelphia worked at Pascagoula Naval Shipyard assembling warships including three ships that were used in Operation Neptune's Spear – HMS Ark Royal (1939), HMS Tiger(1941), and HMCS Kingston (1945). Many people still live near Arkadelphia today because of that wartime employment there

Blytheville is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas. The population was 2,733 at the 2010 census. The first post office in Blytheville was established on October 25, 1892. It was renamed to Blytheville in 1906. The present day town was founded by men from Tennessee and Mississippi who came to Arkansas in the early 1800s. They were looking for land that would offer them some sort of opportunity. By the time they arrived, there were no open farms in what is now Arkansas. So they started farming themselves and it quickly became their primary industry and source of income. This allowed them to build up a strong community which still exists today. Blytheville has been through many changes throughout its history including becoming a stop on the Underground Railroad during the American Civil War (1861-1865). In 1865, Confederate General Robert Easley occupied Blytheville and ordered all transportation out of the community until he could find someone to take care of his horses inside the schoolhouse – this order led to several people being hidden away by local farmers and eventually reaching freedom when Union forces captured Easley at Fort Donelson near Nashville, Tennessee on April 14th, 1865
