The shop was operated by Second Lieutenant G.W.Beasley who purchased the business from his brother-in-law William Hinton Jr. on May 7, 1886. The shop became known as The Brown Horse Shop after Captain John A. Brown of Company C Arkansas Infantry who served in the American Civil War and died in 1865 at the age of 47 years old while fighting for the Confederate States of America near Vicksburg Mississippi
Blytheville is an unincorporated community in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. It is located on the east side of the Arkansas River. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in what would become Blytheville was Isaac Sellers in 1836. He and his family were farmers and later built a wagon train depot near present-day Blytheville on the Arkansas River. A post office called "Blytheville" was established in 1849, and remained in operation until 1907. In 1881, J. Murchison bought land south of present-day Blytheville and founded the town of Murchison on it. The town name was changed to "Blytheville" by act of the Arkansas General Assembly on July 12, 1902. A sawmill operated in Blytheville from 1886 to 1912. A cotton gin followed in 1916 and a blacksmith shop also opened in 1916. The mill closed down around 1942 due to lack of customers and didn't reopen until 1946 when it became known as the Joplin Cotton Mill Company Ltd., which still operates today as a small family-owned business with more than 100 employees including 20 managers/owners). When Elvis Presley began touring America during his "Blue Moon" tour in 1969 he traveled through much of Arkansas including part of Pulaski County where he performed two concerts at Fayette High School Arena on October 24th & 25th 1969 - one night only! Prior to each concert there were local press conferences announcing Elvis' arrival taking place just before he arrived at school that morning for breakfast then walking into Fayette High School for his shows...very cool! Those shows set off several locals businesses becoming associated with Presley over time... like this one installer job done at Fairchild Radio Sales located right next door to this original blue jean factory design gone now since 1978... Blytheville is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2000 census. The town was founded in 1887 by Phebe and John Blythe. It is named after Anna May Blossomwood, daughter of General Blount Blossomwood. The first school in Blytheville was built on the site of the present day Walmart Supercenter. The school opened in 1888 and served grades one through twelve. In 1907, the local post office moved to Blytheville from Rogersville and continued to serve as such until it closed its doors in 1951. In 1911, a new high school was built for students in the town and it operated until 1963 when it was replaced by nearby Mountainview High School. In 2003, the old high school building been sold and used as a library until 2009 when it reopened as part of NorthArk Community College’s annexe located within NorthArk Mall complex which also includes an anchor store called Ark Encounter with over 200 retail stores across several anchors like Home Depot, Lowe’s Hardware and Menard’s Electronics Co-Op along with more than 20 restaurants including Fast food chains KFC and Taco Bell among others In 2006, Walmart Supercenter became an anchor store within NorthArk mall complex along with additional anchors like Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Holding Co., Macy's Department Store (now Neiman Marcus) among others making Blytheville one of Arkansas' most vibrant shopping destinations With many businesses now occupying both fronts of former Walmart Supercenter (anchor store on one side while other anchors are housed inside redevelopment projects), downtown has seen significant renovation over the past few years bringing much needed life back to this once sleepy corner of Pulaski County
